Not much risk in an occasional first cousin marriage. But when these marriages are endogamous generation after generation then it can become problematic.

Yeah but even then it will generally only be a problem if your family has a lot of those problems in their DNA. The main area that has this problem now is some areas of India.

Move to closer sibling and parent-child pairings and it doesn’t matter much what the DNA is. It is going to get ugly (both literally and figuratively) pretty quickly.

And even less supported by science.

Yeah, with the obvious problem that most of the genetic mutations (definitely imperfections even if many of them are harmless) that we use to track heredity pre-date any biblical attempt to pin down when Adam and Eve lived.

The idea of pristine DNA is also shot down by how much non-coded DNA humans have (junk DNA). While it is not as useless as once thought it is definitely not efficient.

Yes, and to such an extent that Jewish genetic diseases are a major problem -- making it quite normal for any prospective marriage to be conditional on genetic counseling.  I don't know whether that is a big problem among Arabs, since they favor first cousin marriage.

Since I already have the transcript open from a different thread, here is what Dan Peterson says about this story of Abraham telling people that Sarah was his sister:

Dr. Daniel Peterson: 00:02:03--Yeah. Oh, chapter 20, again, it's kind of an odd one. The story of Abimelech and Sarah, and Abraham is saying that Sarah's his sister, this is to try to protect himself. And it's kind of a half truth, she is his half sister, so yeah. Which today we would not see that as a legitimate marriage, but in the old days, people married within their clans and their tribes, and so this is not uncommon. But Abimelech, oddly enough, in both the stories he figures in, here and in a later chapter, well in chapter 21, comes across as an honorable guy. He says, "I haven't done anything wrong. And I didn't know that she was your wife. I mean, you said she was your sister and she said, you were her brother." And the Lord is saying, "Watch out." And he says, "Well, I didn't do anything." And the Lord says, "I know you were innocent." I mean, it's interesting that the Lord interacts with Abimelech, who is not an Israelite or a descendant of Abraham, but he's not a bad guy in this.

...And in this story, he's not a bad guy. But I don't know what else we need to say about that story, really. Other than that you had this little kind of awkward incident with Abimelech, and Sarah, and Abraham, and it turns out okay.

John Bytheway: 00:03:52--Well that's a lot of the old Testament is a series of awkward incidents, right?

Dr. Daniel Peterson: 00:03:53--Yes. Yeah.

Hank Smith: 00:03:59--I've noticed, Dan, that Abraham is definitely not perfect. It's almost as if the Lord is saying, he's still my guy, right? Like, I'm going to show you that I chose him. He still makes mistakes. He still does things, very things that are somewhat foolish. He's still my guy.

Hank Smith: 00:07:01--And maybe there's a lesson from Abimelech here of how do you deal when you find out the Lord's servant isn't perfect? He's actually pretty gentle with him. Like, "Hey, why'd you do that? All right. Well behold, my land is here before thee, dwell where it pleaseth thee."

Link, please.

The Mosaic Law did not exist when Abraham was around, so he would have been incapable of violating it. as you touch upon in your OP.

"Abraham was not beyond sin, as his lie about Sarah to king Abimelech reveals", The Book of Abraham clarifies that God told him to say this. God is beyond sin and following God is not sin.
