Busted!

Why? Your question easily boiled down to "how can you know anything?" If you want to discuss that I would page mfb. I am not a philosophy guy. I do know though so not busted. :)

"You are, of of course, taking one passage in isolation and attempting to turn it into a dogmatic rule. Trying to do this with the teachings of Jesus is a fool’s errand. "

No I wasn't. If you prefer next time I could quote the entire standard works and every conference report in existence to support my point but it would probably not be particularly helpful. Quoting a scripture to support your point does not automatically mean you are elevating it above all others. Nice rhetorical jab though.

The entire standard works supports that passage?  I don't know if every bible believer agrees with you.

Check the plagiarized non-scriptural but midrashic thingy?  Ok.  So the believer who goes to Him never knew Him.  THat anonymous guy who wrote Matthew in Greek sure dropped something from translation there.  I wonder what else he dropped.  "Depart from me...you never knew me..welll not good enough...I mean you obviously know something about me, thats why your here, telling me you beleived and did good things...but you didn't know me enough."  Meh...Either way.  Still ridiculous.

Under what standard was it plagiarism? It is not about knowing Him enough. Many think they know Him but worship an idol. Not ridiculous.

Yes.  But if it didn't apply, particularly as strictly as it does today, that hardly means it was not plagiarism.

True, but since there was no attempt to hide that it was based on the King James Bible I am not going to hold it against Joseph Smith that he did not spontanteously invent the MLA format and append it to the end of his Bible translation.

Helping in South Africa:

Quote

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has thanked the United States (US) for donating 1 000 ventilators to South African health facilities as they continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mkhize said on Thursday 21 May that several global and domestic institutions had made “generous donations” of personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as critical intensive-care unit (ICU) equipment needed to support those with the most severe cases of the virus.
...
He said that he had met with a variety of representatives from a host of institutions on Thursday, with Old Mutual, AstraZeneca and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also contributing important equipment to South Africa’s cause.

Mkhize said that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had donated PPE worth more than $1 million (nearly R18 million).

Helping in Wales:

Helping in Kent, WA:

Quote

Members of the Kent Stake and Maple Valley Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are asking residents to join them in a donation drive supporting the Kent Food Bank.

Due to current economic conditions, the Food Bank is assisting more than double the usual number of families each week. Each year, the Food Bank relies in part on a couple of large food drives that will not be held due to the virus. Church members are organizing this drive to help fill the gap, according to a press release from Patrick Hanis, one of the organizers.

The collections are from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 30 and Saturday, June 27.

Helping in Chadron, Nebraska:

At Latter Day Saints Charities, emergency relief efforts are being made around the world to meet the increased needs as a result of the global pandemic.

Due to the fact that the Church has canneries and food processing plants, production schedules were able to be adjusted to meet increased needs.

The intentions of the Church are to make these goods available to Church leaders, community agencies, school feeding programs and food banks/pantries and other partners.

Northwest Community Action Partnership was fortunate to be the recipient of a 20,000+ pound food donation from the Church last week.

Helping around the world:

Quote

Employees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at six facilities around the world are sewing hundreds of thousands of cloth face masks and surgical gowns for health care workers to assist with needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Peggy Cowherd, managing director of the church’s Materials Management Department, said this is one way the church can use its resources to assist in the worldwide cause.

“We, as a global church, have sought ways to help and reach out to our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world,” Cowherd said in a church statement. “One way that we can help is through offering our services from our sewing facilities.”

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And a few more:

Helping in Rockland, Massachusetts (see also here) :

Quote

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local food pantries and organizations have had significant disruption to food supplies.

On Thursday in Rockland, a donation arrived from Utah with 20 tons of food to benefit Interfaith Social Services. This will provide about 42,000 meals for South Shore families.

The donation was from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jared Heaton, the President of the Hingham stake, is hoping this is an example others will follow.

“We encourage all of our members to be mindful of each other and to seek to donate their time or their financial resources to help each other,” said Heaton. “We actually have a pretty structured program where people can donate…and we’ve created a program where we have farms across the country to grow these goods. We have facilities to then professionally pack these goods and process them.”

Rick Doane, the Executive Director of Interfaith Services, says the donation is going to have an immediate impact. They help families in Weymouth, Quincy, Braintree, Randolph, Holbrook, Milton, Scituate, Cohasset, Hull, and Hingham. Additionally, donations will be made to the Weymouth Food Pantry.

Helping in North Carolina:

Quote

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently donated and delivered 30,000 pounds of food to The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina in Greenville, the church announced.

The donation was made to assist the Food Bank’s efforts to combat food insecurity throughout eastern North Carolina, which has increase substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Helping in East Texas:

Quote

As a part of a global effort to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated over 40,000 pounds of food to the East Texas Food Bank.

Delivered in a 53-foot trailer from the church’s base in Salt Lake City, the food bank received 25 pallets of boxed and canned food goods Wednesday.

Helping in Butte, Montana:

Quote

The Butte Rescue Mission received a $20,000 grant from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints amidst its COVID-19-driven increase in demand for critical services the mission provides to the region.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints views the Butte Rescue Mission and its many contributors as critical partners in a cooperative effort to minister to the spiritual and temporal needs of the community. The Butte stake of the Church, similar to a Catholic Diocese, includes congregations in Butte, Dillon, Whitehall, Sheridan/Twin Bridges, Lima, Jackson, Deer Lodge, Anaconda and Philipsburg, including a branch that ministers to inmates in Montana State Prison.

The church and The Butte Rescue Mission share a common purpose in providing to those in need, ministering to the individual and family in ways that empower them to become self-reliant. In addition to providing this grant, the Butte stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to assist the Butte Rescue Mission with self-reliance programs that help individuals in the community.

Helping in Moses Lake, Washington:

Quote

Chelan Fresh has supplied The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with nearly 120,000 pounds of donated produce.

As a result, the LDS chapel on Division Street in Moses Lake will pay-it-forward by distributing the goods in the form of 20-pound boxes on Saturdays on May 30, June 13 and June 27. Each pre-packaged box will contain 9 pounds of apples, 8 pounds of potatoes, and 3 pounds of onions.

Boxes will be delegated to those who need food from 9 a.m. to noon.

Helping sew 200,000 surgical gowns and 1.5 million reusable cloth face masks:

Quote

Beehive Clothing, owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has made hundreds of thousands of cloth face masks and surgical gowns for healthcare workers.

Six Beehive Clothing locations that usually produce sacred clothing have shifted production to making the medical-grade gowns and face masks after the project received approval in mid-April from the First Presidency, which includes President Russell M. Nelson and his two counselors, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring.

The facilities making the surgical gowns and masks are located in Brazil, Paraguay, Mexico, the Philippines, Salt Lake City and American Fork.
...
About 1,000 employees spanning the six facilities are donating their time, labor and sewing capacity for several months. They are diverting from sewing sacred garments, according to Cowherd.

Beehive Clothing also donated some of its fabric for the projects.
...
As of Monday, Cowherd reports, approximately 50,000 gowns have been sewn at the two Utah plants, and about 585,000 masks have been completed at the international plants, according to the church statement.

The goal is to sew 200,000 surgical gowns and 1.5 million reusable cloth face masks by the end of June.

Helping in Western Massachusetts:

Quote

On June 11, after a 2,295-mile trek from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, a 53-foot truck laden with 41,000 pounds of food will arrive at the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts (FBWM) in Hatfield, just a few miles down the road from Greenfield.

The truck’s arrival marks a milestone in the trek begun in the homes of members of the Greenfield congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 92 Colrain Road, where Robert Doty, Greenfield resident, serves as the ecclesiastical lay leader. The trek’s goal will be completed when the much needed food, donated through the Church to the FBWM, and then distributed through the food bank’s 180 associated food pantries, mobile distribution sites, and meal sites, (many of which serve the residents of Greenfield and surrounding communities) arrives on tables of those in need.

Helping in Twin Falls, Idaho:

Quote

Ray Parrish, Twin Falls public affairs representative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently assisted in coordinating a food donation of over 40,000 pounds, valued at $45,000, for South Central Community Action Partnership’s (SCCAP) food program.

Church leaders Wayne Goodworth, Salt Lake regional manager, and Dr. James Coombs, regional welfare president, along with several other church members met with SCCAP’s staff to unload 25 pallets of food which will be provided to low-income families throughout the Magic Valley.

The church has been engaged with providing community food pantries with both inventory and volunteers since the middle of March across the country, shipping semi-loads to 31 states. Each truck carries approximately 40,000 pounds of food commodities, which equals about one week of food for 1,400 people. The total number of deliveries thus far has exceeded 180 trucks delivering approximately 7,200,000 pounds of food.

Thanks,

-Smac

The church is involved in humanitarian work daily, which goes unnoticed; in the 'closet' per se.  It's good for the church to get recognized for some of it, and it helps counter a lot of the hate directed at us, wouldn't you agree? I also hope it might give others ideas of how they could help too.
