Joshua Valentine Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 So, I think this could make for a pretty good individual decision - to take Nelson´s logic to its seemingly natural conclusion and full spirit of God´s impression on him - and simply choose to start referring to oneself as ¨a Christian¨ and specifically, when needed, ¨an LDS Christian¨. No need to wait for a proclamation or command. If Jesus Christ is offended by removing him from names of his church and his followers, then just go for it.

As for non-LDS in Utah, surely news spreads pretty quickly in Utah from the LDS Church to them as well. Any change is not going to be picked up right away; time will be required whatever the correction. Sooooo..... Nothing different happens when I tell members or nonmembers I am a LDS Christian in the few experiences I have had where someone didn't know already and the subject comes up. I don't go around where I live telling other members I am a Mormon, they already know that. On the rare occasion I am talking to someone where the conversation comes up when we don't know, I have used LDS when I know they are familiar with the faith. I used LDS Christian online often when discussing religious topics and probably will continue if mostly among nonmembers. But I have found recently I like using just Saints when among members when talking about members.

Second, I am a Christian Evangelical with a capital E, a sub-group of Christianity that began in the 40's. Third, I am a Christian Evangelical Mennonite. Those three terms taken together tell you much about me. When I am around my LDS friends, I indicate I am a non-LDS-Christian. RevTestament taught me to use the LDS and non-LDS Christian terminology.

The term "LDS" is no longer kosher (which is funny since it is just an acronym for Latter-day Saint).

Nelson says they've taken Christ out with names like Mormon and LDS. My suggestion is most honest and direct by simply claiming Christian as the LDS Church always has in theory. And as Navidad has shown, it's perfectly practical to specify in such a way. "LDS Christian" both clarifies efficiently (like Mormon and LDS did) without losing Christ (as Nelson claims is the offense and detriment to be avoided). None of these impractical sentences, as Nelson offered, when "LDS Christian" will do: “'If you are asking if I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yes, I am!' If someone asks,'Are you a Latter-day Saint?'16 you might respond, 'Yes, I am. I believe in Jesus Christ and am a member of His restored Church.'"
