That sounds a lot like my God (and the location of the Holy Ghost, from the inside). I confess that I do not really understand the "My God" idea. I have heard many a variation on the theme at "My God would never do this or that thing." I do understand that God, through the Holy Ghost communicates with us in the manner in which we individually are best able to comprehend, but the truths about who God is and what He is and what He has done are the same for all of us. 1
Calm Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 It is simply a shorthand, I believe, for saying "my understanding of who and what God is" which would include for many what he would and would not do. 55 minutes ago, Glenn101 said: I confess that I do not really understand the "My God" idea.

I think worshipers are like their god. My God is not a god of war or hatred. Although the same God is revealed and taught in the scriptures, people interpret the scriptures differently, and so end up with different ideas about God. If you interpret the God of the OT being about war and bloodshed, you will end up with a different God than me. So "my God" is a subjective term rather than a truly objective one. It's our own attempt to understand an objective God who does not let Himself be known very objectively. It can be easy to misunderstand Him I think. Which is why He teaches us through prophets and seers. Nevertheless, to argue about 'my God" I don't believe will be terribly constructive. It serves to separate us rather than to include everyone in the Christian family. 1

I understand that is what people do. My God is the same God as everyone else's God, but I mind set is more akin to that of RevTestament. I do not discount something that I read in the scriptures about God just because it makes me uncomfortable or maybe because I flat out do not like it. I just have to put those things on hold until I can get a bit more information. Glenn

The Lord has called in our day, not scribes and Pharasees with their lexicons, but living prophets with revelation to interpret the scriptures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MMfh-0XzqQ&t=2s ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Just curious, how do you explain his being able to dictate for hours at a sitting, with his face in a hat -- no lamp, no table, unable to turn pages, no manuscript to read from. Just read the Book of Mormon and see how that "maps to reality" to be able to dictate such a book. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Reformed Egyptian In the July/August 2018 edition of "Biblical Archaeology Review" on page 33, is an article "Egyptian Papyrus Sheds New Light on Jewish History." The author is Karel van der Toorn. The article is about a papyrus roll discovered in the late 19th century at Luxor (ancient Thebes). It took more than 120 years to decipher the text. It was discovered that Egyptian Demotic script had been used to write Aramaic text! The translation turned out to be three Israelite psalms written about 400BC. This is an example of "Reformed Egyptian" used by Israelites and discovered by non-Mormons!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Joseph Smith... blah blah blah Why don't you expose other prophets == MOSES -- used a mystical staff that magicians also used which could transform into a serpent. Killed an Egyptian hid his body, and fled out of Egypt to escape arrest. PAUL == arrested and threw into prison men, women and children for simply being Christian. Gave approval and consent for the stoning of Stephen An angel of light appeared to him on the road to Damascus. His account was written several decades after the event, and the two accounts contradict each other. He was arrested for being a disorderly person and causing a riot. PETER == took a sword and almost killed a servant, told a lie and denied knowing Christ multiple times. NATHAN == gave false prophecy about David building a temple. Let us not forget Noah who had a drinking problem nor Solomon's 700 wives and 300 concubines, nor the polygamy of Moses, David, Abraham, etc. etc. For Joseph's seer stone, Noah's tsohar used in the ark; the tsohars used in the Jaredite barges (http://lds-studies.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-jaredite-scriptures-and-tsohar.html); Ex. 28:30; Mosiah 21:28 (27–28). TG Urim and Thummim; JST, John 1:42 - Cephas means “seer” or “stone;” Thomas Mann has elaborated greatly on the definition of this term in Joseph the Provider, the fourth book of his tetralogy Joseph and His Brothers; "1) In the book of Genesis 30:37-39, we read of Jacob and a rod of green poplars he used to produce speckled cattle while in the service of his uncle Laban. Whatever a green poplar is, certainly nothing in nature can cause cattle to be speckled or produced at will. 2) From Exodus 7:9-12, Aaron’s rod transformed into a serpent before Pharaoh. Here God uses a common object to demonstrate His power. 3) In Numbers 5:11-13 and 21, a jealousy offering is presided over by a priest who gives an accused woman water, and if this water becomes bitter, the woman’s stomach swells, and her thigh rots. If so, she is declared guilty of adultery. Again, something as common as water is used to demonstrate the power of God. 4) From 1 Samuel 9:6-8, 20, we read of Saul, before his reign as king of Israel, distressed over the loss of a flock of asses. He and some companions set out to seek the Seer, Samuel the prophet, in order that they might be given the right direction as to the whereabouts of their lost flock. Are we to presume that an Israelite prophet can use supernatural powers to locate lost animals? In this case, it matters not how Samuel came to the knowledge, but God worked through Samuel to assure Saul of His power. 5) From 2 Kings 5, the prophet Elisha commanded Naaman to wash seven times in a filthy river to cleanse himself of leprosy. Dirty water does not cure skin disease. Once again, this action depicts God using anything available to Him in order to demonstrate His power. 6) In Exodus 28:30 and Ezra 2:63 the priest of Ezra looked into a mysterious object, the Urim and Thummim, to certify through one’s genealogy. The Urim and Thummin are also briefly used by Joseph Smith until the seer stone became the primary tool in the Book of Mormon translation process. 7) In Daniel 5:11, would it be becoming of a prophet to be named among the chief of magicians, astrologers, and soothsayers? Was Daniel really a magician? Or was God showing His power through Daniel? 8) Finally, in Acts 1:26, why would the Apostles cast lots? Their prayers in verse 24 and revelation are the power, not the casting of lots. Again, God used common, physical objects to demonstrate His power." http://www.latterdaytimes.com/8-biblical-parallels-to-joseph-smiths-seer-stone/
cdowis Posted November 27, 2018 Author Posted November 27, 2018 >Mormonism is from Satan Which of these doctrines are from Satan? 1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. 2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression. 3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. 4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. 5. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things
