Hmm.  A city employee publicly admitting to consuming a controlled substance.

What a weird story this is.

Thanks,

-Smac

Agreed. But I still think she had quit working for the city by then.

And one Presidents 42-44 admitted to and I’d be willing to place money that #45 has as well. Not sure what the scandal is here. It’s 2018 after all...

While they were in public office? I don’t recall hearing that.

Interesting. Did I say they were in public office at the time? Let me go check my post.

Nope I didn’t. ;)

The context of the conversation was a city employee consuming pot while on the public payroll. If the POTUSes you finger were not in office, the parallel is not there.

The source I quoted was published after the first of the year. And people don’t always get around to timely updating of their Facebook profiles.

Not arguing, just trying to see the timeline...don't know why I care, probably just passing time.

The public is entitled to hold public officials and employees to certain standards, obeying the law being one.

I get the impression she worked on John Curtis’s congressional campaign after leaving the mayor’s office, then began free-lancing.

I agree.  In fact, he should have been fired twice.  Once for the abuse and once for a drug violation.

The Trib is in a bit of a tailspin, last I heard. Maybe management figures it can’t afford to jettison him for good.

This weekend, Sunstone reached out begging for money.  I've subscribed in the past, attended a conference years and years ago....  I was thinking about tossing them a few bucks since I do really enjoy the Magazine -- even if the symposium has become a complete joke.

And then I saw that Sunstone has banned Kirby.  Well, they are never getting any more of my money.  It would be better to give to the Interpreter IMO.

Sunstone has fully embraced the SJW/victim mentality.  They deserve the bankruptcy that has resulted.

And Smac raised a good point. What does it say about Sunstone that this kind of thing goes on openly at its conferences, apparently with widespread approval?

There is a lot of nonsense at Sunstone that they don't want you to know about.

She was the main figure in that story a few months back about sexual harassment in Curtis' campaign

If Kirby is that crucial to the Trib then they're in more than a tailspin.

I have no inside information. I just know that they made some drastic layoffs a few months ago, citing a serious downturn in revenue and circulation. They have felt obliged to go to a paywall recently to shore up their operation. And without doubt, Kirby’s column has been a popular feature over the years. I’m thinking they believe they can ill afford to lose one of their main selling points. I think they’ve had to weigh that against the bad publicity surrounding the emergennce of the Sunstone incident and that the three-month suspension is their attempt to assuage the crisis.

I'm not big on the tu quoque approach to such issues.

By referencing U.S. presidents whom you assume have smoked pot?

And who is casting stones?

Thanks,

-Smac

I don’t assume. They admitted to using pot. And no stones here. I am merely pointing out that admitting to using marijuana a couple of times is the equivalent of admitting to speeding in a car (up until a couple of years ago this was a class c misdemeanor in Utah...), rounding up when giving your height or adding a couple inches to the length of that fish you caught.

He's publicly admitted (almost bragged) about using marijuana but the "escort" scenario is just bizarre. Why would anyone think that a young woman walking beside him at a conference was an escort and not simply a participant or lecturer? So strange...

Very strange, of course I have only delt with "escorts services", from a criminal standpoint, as they are illegal in Atlanta, and almost every other major city. I was called on a complaint to a two room apartment, being used by as a (can't use the term), only to find that she had a six year old child who would sit in the kitchen while she did business. Needless to say things got very ugly, very fast. Having said all of this, WHY would any married man, or religious man, ever want to have others think he was using an "Escort Service"? Then to take part in having her take drugs? He should be fired!

Possession/distribution of a controlled substance is a good deal more serious than the things you are comparing it to here.

Indeed. But not for long:

https://www.google.com/amp/www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/01/05/americans-support-marijuana-legalization/%3famp=1

And at least 3/4 and likely 4/4 of our last few presidents are guilty of this “serious” offense.
