When I grew my hair down to my hips, it to took a lot of effort because it was another aspect that created more work, harder to clean, harder to keep soft, harder to keep trimmed properly, harder to style, plus heavier and hotter and annoyingly in the way at times. Hair can refer to both the strands or the overall look. The strands do require some effort of healthy eating and protection to look their best, the look requires lots more. The beard can refer to the collection of strands or the overall look of a beard style. You seem to be talking about just the first (what one might refer to when discussing Rip Van Winkle’s beard) while I have always been talking about the second....not quite this far, but something sharp looking at least. My roommate in Hinkley Hall had a full Abe Lincoln and I had a sweet goatee. During the summers I grew out luxurious Brother Brighams, but today I most resemble Gabby Hayes when I grow it out.
