Correlation is not causation.

No, but when God says that he will cause these things at some point, then at some point we have to recognize that God, not nature, is causing these things.

Do we know if we are there yet?  Do we know if anything outside the norm has happened that needs a new cause attributed?
Perhaps not yet.  But at some point after it started raining, the people in the days of Noah had to recognize something was up.

Others declare that these prophecies can never be understood until they are fulfilled. If this be the case, then we can never escape the judgments predicted in them, but must continue the children of darkness, until they come upon us unawares and sweep us from the earth. Then where will be the consolation in looking back and seeing them fulfilled? But blessed be God, he has told us by the mouth of Daniel that many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased, and that the wise shall understand, but none of the wicked shall understand. (Daniel 12:4, 10) And now, I would ask, who are more wicked than the wilfully blind leaders of the blind, who tell us we cannot understand the scriptures?

God uses natural systems to good effect. Hurricanes are giant heat engines. More hot water more powerful hurricanes. Earth quakes are the movements of giant land masses sliding past each other. All perfectly natural systems that don't need a God to cause them. But that doesn't mean that God can't use them to make a point. IE:  On a human level I knew that each of my children would touch a hot stove at some point in their childhood. That doesn't mean that I caused the stove to be hot in order for them to touch it.

I get your point, and it's valid.
But sometimes God DOES make the stove hot.
And we have prophecies that may well come true if things keep on.
President Woodruff had lovely things in mind for Boston, Albany, and New York.  If they come to pass, I don't think we can reasonably call those natural systems.

D&C 84:114-115
114 Nevertheless, let the bishop go unto the city of New York, also to the city of Albany, and also to the city of Boston, and warn the people of those cities with the sound of the gospel, with a loud voice, of the desolation and utter abolishment which await them if they do reject these things.
115 For if they do reject these things the hour of their judgment is nigh, and their house shall be left unto them desolate.
INSTITUTE LESSON MANUAL, D&C - SECTION 84
[W]hile you stand in the towers of the Temple and your eyes survey this glorious valley filled with cities and villages, occupied by tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints, you will then call to mind this visitation of President Young and his company. You will say: That was in the days when Presidents Benson and Maughan presided over us; that was before New York was destroyed by an earthquake; it was before Boston was swept into the sea, by the sea heaving itself beyond its bounds; it was before Albany was destroyed by fire; yea, at that time you will remember the scenes of this day. Treasure them up and forget them not.' President Young followed and said: 'What Brother Woodruff has said is revelation and will be fulfilled.'
JD, B YOUNG 8:30
"Do you think there is calamity abroad now among the people?" Not much. All we have yet heard and all we have experienced is scarcely a preface to the sermon that is going to be preached. When the testimony of the Elders ceases to be given, and the Lord says to them, "Come home; I will now preach my own sermons to the nations of the earth," all you now know can scarcely be called a preface to the sermon that will be preached with fire and sword, tempests, earthquakes, hail, rain, thunders and lightnings, and fearful destruction. What matters the destruction of a few railway cars? You will hear of magnificent cities, now idolized by the people, sinking in the earth, entombing the inhabitants. The sea will heave itself beyond its bounds, engulfing mighty cities. Famine will spread over the nations, and nation will rise up against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and states against states, in our own country and in foreign lands; and they will destroy each other, caring not for the blood and lives of their neighbors, of their families, or for their own lives.

A few years ago I went to the USGS site and looked at the long term numbers of hurricanes and earthquakes. Contrary to some , the rates and sizes have not changed much over the last 100 years. IIRC there were 7 hurricanes that hit the southern US in 1935/6 . When Boston gets flooded by a tsunami and Albany burns  and NY is hit by a massive earthquake we should really be paying attention. On the other hand, I think there was another part of the prophecy that talked about the slopes of the Wasatch being heavily populated. It is way more covered with homes now than in Bro Woodruffs' time. Also, if the deaths of about 200 million during the 20th century, mostly from war, is not a fulfillment of part of BY's statement , I'm not sure what is.

"The Ramapo Fault, a New York Metro-area fault line, runs 70 miles through New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The fault has been quiet for about 200 years and it is sure that at some point an earthquake is going to occur. However, since the rules of the game are not well understood in this area, it is hard to forecast the hazard."

Actually we're getting more and bigger hurricanes.

I don't put too much weight on any one event or even a series of events during a year.  But I think if one looks at the trends, it is clear we are getting closer.

If the climate change prophets are correct, this matches pretty well with last days issues as mentioned in the scriptures.  Great hail storms, droughts, famines, floods, cities being destroyed by the seas, ect would all fit the context of the climate of the earth being different than what it was before.   These climate change events would spark world wide disruption of food supplies and cause internal civil wars as well as wars between nations. Looking at earthquakes at least in the US, all the major faults are due or overdue to go.  We will see earthquakes in in the US that we have never seen since the founding of this country.  The 21st century looks to be a century that promises to be of great distress.  Far greater than we have seen in previous centuries.  My kids will see and experience things that neither I nor my grandparents had to go through.
