Monster Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 The life of an apostle has got to be difficult physically and mentally. But on the flipside they never have to worry about going hungry. Or wonder if they can pay for medical care in their old age. Or have a place to live. Or ever remotely worry if they will be left alone in a nursing home with no one to visit them. Other than a former president of the US I can not think of anyone who has better security in their old age.
Calm Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) OTHO, if they want to take off on a cruise (like my dad did) with their wife, they can't do it except in July. And they can't devote several months working in the yard for hours practically every day one year to doing a great landscape project (as a friend did when he retired). And they probably have to miss alot of birthday parties and other events of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren (as do their wives if they travel with them) that they would otherwise attend but cannot because they are scheduled for speaking. While a lot of CEOs and such may be as busy as they are, the CEOs and such can always retire if they want to. Not a 'till you die' commitment on their part even if that is how they think they want it. They can always change their minds. Hopefully when GAs look at the next 15, 20 or longer years of their lives in service to the Lord in this one calling, they don't get the feeling of being trapped in an endless cycle of flights, meetings, speaking engagements, always being on call, etc. and instead focus on the ability to help so many for the rest of their lives. Now that I think of it, I don't think former presidents have that great of a sense of security given they will be needing to have Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives just in case someone wants to use them to make a violent political statement.
