Correction to church manuals

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So the other day my wife was looking through my old gospel principle manual that I used for teaching and notice a lot of my inserts to some of the lesson and said that they were pretty good and sugested I submit them.

has anyone done this before, and if so what was the out come.

example of one of my inserts

"sabbath comes from a Hebrew word for rest." I noted that the Hebrew word for sabbath does not mean rest it means to cease from work. Because it shows that we don't just lay around, we stop from worldly work and focus on godly work.

I sent some feedback on some very, very bad baby-care advice they printed in the Latter-day Saint Woman, years ago , and provided some links to clinical studies.  They wrote me back and thanked me and said they'd review the information. Unfortunately it has not been revised, even online, but I'm under the impression that it's not really being used anymore anyway.

And the blogger here apparently sent that info to the CCC.  When the new edition of the scriptures came out, that little tidbit was taken out of the Bible Dictionary.  He posted somewhere at T&S (maybe in the comments on a post about the changes to the new edition) that he was taking credit for it :)

I know of changes being made to online info because someone submitted a correction.  However, never kept track on manual stuff so don't know.  If it is good stuff, why not try?  If it happens, that much better.  If it doesn't, no worse off.

I've sent in corrective factual material for several manuals.   Each time I've gotten a nice response, indicating intent to fix in future iterations.

That was the same thing I got. But also a few years ago I was reading the old gp manual and thought there needs to be a change then the new manual had the change I had in mind so bonus points also the hand book of instruction had something I wanted add so when the new one came out it was added also a bonus because I did not have to submit it

They had a lot of nerve stealing your idea like that even before you sent it.

I like to think that I had the same spiritual intuition. And plus I let my wife and a few friends know what I was thinking before the change, it kind of freaked them out.
