Thoughts On Revelation

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about revelation. I've noticed sometimes that will have thoughts and impressions about a certain topic and then i will hear or read someone at a similar time voicing the same issues. Ive been wondering if maybe the Lord is sending out like a general message and those that are in tune on that subject all receive the same impressions.

Sort of like light from one source hitting a number of people in the area.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Read this! Alma 16:16

16 And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming—

Yes. A number of times.

That may be something to ponderize

I've noticed this too.

Conversely, wouldn't it be weird if this never happened? That our thoughts are so unique that no one else, out of 7 billion people on the planet, thought the same things?

A few weeks before Pres. Uchtdorf gave his talk about a "continuing restoration" I had this thought and shared it with a number of people.

I don't know if it was revelation or if we had both read or heard someone else discussing it. In either case, it made me look smarter than I am.

How would that work?

It just seems to me an odd coincidence that multiple people could have the same random but uplifting education and there not being a divine role in it.

One of the times it happened to me is was studying president kimball's biography and came across a principle that I had never heard taught before. Namely that often the problem in life is that people use people and love things instead of loving people and using thing.

I thought it was a unique way of putting it.

Literally the next day I was listening to Glenn Beck for a few minutes I actually had time to do so. He said the same thing verbatim. I was pretty astonished and took note of it because it seemed the Lord was trying to teach me this principle from multiple sources.

Several years ago many of the brethren in our High Priest Group and their wives felt a strong impression that each one of us would be called to be the next Bishop of our ward.  None of us shared that with the other until after the Bishop was called from among us.  We all agreed that he was an excellent choice on the part of the Lord and our Stake President, but we also pondered why we had the revelation we did.

One of us was brave enough to admit he and his wife thought he would be the next Bishop, and the announcement of another brother being called was met with relief, approval, and a bit of confusion.

After we all began to admit many of us had experienced a similar prompting, we then shared that each of us struggled to see how we could fulfill such a call, and our wives did also.  Every one of us had the opportunity to adjust our attitude and be prepared to accept the call, and each of our wives was given the opportunity to accept what would be a great sacrifice for them.

What we realized afterward is that the calling itself was not the important part.  We and our spouses showing the Lord that we were willing brought great blessings to us.

The man called was a tremendous Bishop and we were all happy to sustain him.

Maybe each of them had an idea and not a revelation.

If you want to travel down the revelation path, let's go there ... supposing there were 200 male

priesthood holders in the group and you believed you all received a revelation.  Then 199 priests

received a wrong revelation (from Satan) and only one person received a correction revelation

(from God).

Strong impressions based on human desires or 199 wrong revelations?  Its your call.

Thanks,

Jim

Been pondering this and I've had a few questions

1) is it the Church that had no inequality or the people?

2) was the spirit poured out in consequence of there being no inequality or was the lack of inequality a result of the spirit being poured out?

I've always thought revelations like that were to let those that receive it know that they need to be prepared because the Lord is considering them.
