A "free Byu" Compromise

That's a strange response.Your mind reading skills are poor. Please stop trying to use them.

Well what are you getting at then? You keep bringing this up in disparagement, yet you say it doesn't bother you.

Do you similarly believe that Tom Phillip's and other former-members' attempts to get back-tithing have elements of "fairness?" Certainly those members believe they were mislead by the church when they were making the donations. If it's "fair" for the church to seek for tuition subsidies to be paid back for times when the member was an active believer, why isn't it just a fair for members to get back their tithing for the same time periods?

Seriously Scott, it's a little ridiculous to consider retribution where the parties have been acting in good faith. Students who lose their faith were not secretly plotting their course in order to get lower tuition rates. They were real believes and then changed. Would you also have the church sue former members for any welfare assistance they had received? C'mon.

Claiming they were misled is not the actuality.  There is some doubt while there is no doubt about those students who apostatize.

I don't even know what you are referring to here, but I'm pretty sure your condescension and contempt shine through quite well...if that's what you were going for. Did I say anything about tilting the scales 100% in the other direction? No. Yet, I've not seen any evidence of you allowing for any measure of mercy at all.

Before you get yet more personal -- and risk thread closure -- I'm choosing to end the conversation here.

Regardless, I consider the approach of kicking out all students who leave the church, regardless of their willingness to abide by the honor code, to be "scorched earth." So I'd still apply that term as I understand you to be a (strong) supporter of the policy.

Except there is little evidence that this is happening and Scott has said he is a strong supporter of allowing BYU to continue doing it the way they choose to do so...which would include not kicking out all students who leave the Church as of now.

add-on:  since I see that Scott is ending the conversation, I think I will have this as my last post on the subject as well.  There is so much miscommunication going on from all angles it seems to me, that it is too rustrating anyway.

Anything worthwhile has been said already, a couple of times.

Well, I guess I won't try to clarify anything here, then.
