stemelbow Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 So you want it both ways. The brethren were right in 1947 and they were right in 1978. Different brethren, different realities=both right? I don´t see it. The brethren in 1947 were wrong. Deal with it. Yeah...not sure I get how this works for Scott, but I guess it does.
Duncan Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 He kept it quiet? I thought he told JS' dad the couplet and the ideas went from Joseph's dad to Joseph himself which helped frame Joseph's theories in the Nauvoo period? not sure but he didn't petition and complain about why Joseph wasn't accepting the idea

BookofMormonLuvr Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I find it incredibly disheartening to hear people continue to justify the ban and racist teachings as God's will. Frankly, it disgusts me.Honestly, I have stopped taking Scott seriously anymore, he is like a characacher (sp?) of an over-the-top believing Mormon. If I didn't know better, I would think it was an act. Post #28 is a good example. 2
bcuzbcuz Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 It disgusts me to see wrongdoing unfairly imputed to the anointed servants of God.There can be no denying the reality of the situation. What varies is the assessment. Both 1947 doctrine and 1978 doctrine cannot be equally right and equally contradictory. If the servants of god are not wrong in either situation, then the buck is just kicked up one level higher. 2
CV75 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) SOmetimes people are ahead of their time.It is as good for a member to know and appreciate whether his opinion is solicited, timely, and otherwise fits in with the inspired council process that the Lord laid out as it is for a leader to know that his councils are functioning and addressing relevant circumstances as the Lord laid out. The outcome of a the inspired process, not any respective position taken, determines the “rightness” or “wrongness” of any course of action for the given time and circumstances. There is also a difference between opinion, conclusion and decision and how they are treated in the councils of the Church. It is as good for a member to understand these differences as it is for a leader to discern them. Edited June 11, 2015 by CV75 1

Racism was always bad, but a careful read of the correspondence indicates that it doesn't appear to have been the sole deciding factor in the decisions made. 3
mormonnewb Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 It disgusts me to see wrongdoing unfairly imputed to the anointed servants of God.And in what case could wrongdoing be FAIRLY imputed to the Brethren? In your view, they are the true Poppins (practically perfect in every way). So given your disposition, it is impossible to avoid your disgust. What I find remarkable is that you think your disgust should matter in the least to anyone. Have the Brethren anointed you as the MD hall monitor? So by whose authority do you constantly patrol these threads ensuring only good is spoken of Those Who Shall Not Be Questioned?Or have you ... gasp ... taken it upon yourself to protect them? Or perhaps, you have some scripture (or even better, an article in the Ensign) that directs you to make sure that no one ever questions a decision made by any church leader at any time? And if not, are you not worried that this one independent thought will lead to others? I'll be praying for you, Brother! 1
Okrahomer Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 This "discussion" has deteriorated. It saddens me that fellow believers in Christ would forget basic charity and civility and resort to attacking one another like this. Why is that necessary? It is unseemly and feels like a betrayal of the very Jesus in whom many of us have professed faith.Mods: I'm sorry to nanny or derail or whatever rules I have just broken. I stand ready to accept the appropriate punishments. 2
