Calm Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 (edited) Maybe for worrying that my disbelief is going to get me to a not very good place. So my skills will have to be how to endure torture. No, maybe it'd be better if there was no afterlife. Back to the program of lighter posts about the OP, sorry.Your posts have gotten darker. You should consider you may be suffering from clinical depression and see a doctor and therapist. It has made a world of difference for my daughter.Get your thyroid and Vit d levels checked. Those are extremely common in being off and causing issues, especially for women our age.It doesn't have to be much. Just a little bit can suck the joy out of life though. I didn't know a medication caused me to be depressed for several years until I went off of it and suddenly noticed I was enjoying the sensation of water on my skin again. I thought it was just life being rather stressful at the time, but it wasn't that. Edited May 10, 2015 by calmoriah 1

rodheadlee Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Ah, but do we eat?Luke 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and awondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. 1
longview Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I am not sure I buy that story. I suspect Job was a real person but that our book would fall under the "based on a true story" classification. I feel the same way about parts of the story of Samson's life. Some alterations may have been made by later scribes for propaganda purposes. Originally, it may have started out as a cautionary tale about the misuse of a powerful gift and wayward youthful indiscretions. However I do believe that Samson actually had that kind of gift and the amazing life he lived. I also believe that Job did have great wealth and infuence from his long time devotion to serving God and fellow men. I doubt someone nearby wrote down all the speeches given verbatim or that whoever wrote it was given a vision where Satan showed up at God's throne to call God out for Job's supposedly pampered life. In the last several years I have questioned many accounts in the BoM on who would have recorded the events or even the thought process of participants. I would feel comfortable with the authors recieving revelations to supplement the original verbal accounts. We know that Joseph Smith have had to make multiple drafts and revisions on some of his writings and revelations. For example, "translation" of the Book of Moses was still on-going to the time of his martyrdom (the RLDS had the latest revisons, our Book of Moses is based on an earlier draft). I see no reason to believe God lets Satan visit. The prologue of the story is too storybookish. It seems to me a fanciful prologue made up by the writer to amuse the reader. It may even be a later addition someone else added as the prologue seems to me to contradict the theme of the whole story. I agree on the basis of God not allowing any unclean thing to enter His presence. However, God the Father did go down to "Earth" on the Sixth Day. Maybe God met Satan on "neutral" grounds. We should not deny God's capability and power for restoring the previous blessings back to Job after his trial. It was an "Abrahamic" test permitted by God on Job. It should not be difficult to see that Job received greater rewards and possessions than he had before the start of his trial. I see no contradiction between the "prologue" and the whole account.
