Brian 2.0 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I went to the movies today and guess what... they charged me for it! Can you believe that!? I heard proceeds of my ticket sale went to the writer, their editor, even towards the cost of the cameras! This is America! Why don't I get everything for free that I consume!

Do you want me to say it any clearer or slower, I know Americans' find it difficult to understand English. (see I can be sarcastic too)

(see I can be sarcastic too) You don't need to say it any slower, but I would still like to hear your reasoning about why JD is innapropriate in the way he earns his money and the way others in the church earn theirs. I'm hoping for some consistency. If your only beef is about money being asked for up front, that seems pretty petty. Does the church ask for tithing commitment up front before baptism? It's a terrible example but it shows again why your position is inconsistent. 3

(see I can be sarcastic too)I find it difficult to understand why it would be wrong to do it at the beginning of a venture but okay to do later on in the venture. If he chooses to dream big about his organization and what it can be with some financial assistance, then why not? Money is being spent right out of the gate in that or any endeavour. A lot of those fundraising campaigns are being done before any work is done, just based off an idea. 1

I bet they even force-fed you paid ads/trailers BEFORE the movie started with the proceeds going to the movie theater! I seriously wonder what their motives are?
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Gonna come out and say it, though I really don't care for anything John does asking for money for a podcast it not an issue. I think what he says is a bigger issue. If you can even call that an issue. Edited May 8, 2015 by Mola Ram Suda Ram 2
ERayR Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I'm also grateful that the church is in such good financial shape that we don't have to charge for most anything anymore. No more RS dues or fundraisers (mostly).. Or elders quorum dues or budget assessments or fund raising dinners or fund raising projects or ward welfare farms. If I took some time I could probably come up with more.
Brian 2.0 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I'm fine with nominal charges to cover costs. So travel for patriarchs, printing costs for the BOM, and publishing costs for church magazines. All fine in my book.I'm also grateful that the church is in such good financial shape that we don't have to charge for most anything anymore. No more RS dues or fundraisers (mostly).Would you account for this with an increase in tithing per capita or with good ol fashion compound interest working in the church's favor.

It was all voluntary, but we haven't seen that sort of thing in more than a generation now.

Or better money management?
HappyJackWagon Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I do know. That money isn't asked for but is still needed, hence my question. More tithing coming in? Or better money management? Why is extra money still needed? I think you nailed it with compound interest and return on investments as the reason the church is stronger financially. I wouldn't have any idea on tithing dollars since those numbers aren't shared.
