Yirgacheffe Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I have to admit that I am not a fan of the video. Not that it offends me or anything, it just didn't move me as it might have. Why? Mainly because she had agreed to meet her cousin at the airport, and she didn't come through. Quite simply, she put too many other things ahead of it. I wish she would have said as many "yeses" as possible while still making it a point to see her cousin. It was as if she couldn't prioritize at all. For instance, when she was asked to bring in a meal, she needed to think whether that was feasible, given the commitments she had already made that day. Any woman in the Relief Society could bring in the meal for that evening. The sick woman's needs could still be met, and if our video lady wanted to help, she could volunteer for the next meal. But *she* is the only one who can meet her cousin at the airport. And her cousin's needs were certainly not met that day. Nor were hers. I understand the message this video was trying to convey, and I agree with that message. However, it didn't ring true for me as it might have. I don't believe Christ bit off more than He could chew to the detriment of someone to whom He had made a commitment. This woman seems almost codependent in her need to take on any and everything suggested to her, even if it meant letting her cousin (and herself) down. Being Christlike means serving as He served. And codependency is not involved. JMHO, of course.I'm surprised how many think it's perfectly fine to blow off the woman sitting in the airport, she doesn't seem to matter much.

It is all about setting priorities. Whatever you choose as your priorities is where you will put your efforts. This woman chose her children and service to others. Your priorities may have and seem to be different than hers. We are free to choose our defining priorities. I think Christ probably could have found other things to do on that fateful day he ended up on Calvary.

ERayR Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I see it as being a person who keeps promises or one who doesn't. I would have to watch it again but did not see a promise to meet her cousin. She got a text from the cousin also last minute that her cousin was coming through the airport and had a two hour layover and asking if she could meet her.
MorningStar Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 Actually, her cousin is updating her on how long her layover is. At the beginning of the video, she has "KATE!" written on the calendar and that morning she is excitedly texting her about "Cousin night!" There must have been a flight delay or something because her cousin is telling her it's just a two hour layover, but she's still very excited to see her. It's her sister that calls her on a moment's notice and wants her to meet her for lunch at the park.
Rain Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Did you learn something good? Then what does it matter if it was not the lesson someone else learned. Simply because I see it one way doesn't mean I insist that everyone see it my way. I hope that others understand what I am pointing out and take it as a reasonable position to hold, but I suspect each of our reaction has much more to do with what we bring to the video than what the video itself is about.I could take the video or leave it. I could see some good things and some things I didn't like. I do think a lot of what you get out of it has to do what is going on with your life.I don't like the put downs some are giving of those who do like it though. We cannot judge that someone doesn't have the Spirit if they relate to the video. We are going to put others down because they lack the gift of organizing their time?Like I said, this didn't get to me, but I can see a time in my life when it might have. I can see how some of the points brought up might have helped me. I get why some don't like it, but can we listen to those who do like it and maybe learn from them as well? 1

It's a scripted acted out scenario and one would presume who ever made it wanted to present a clear message. I don't think they did it was muddled, disjointed and in the end showed a lack of concern for the cousin and gave the message that it's okay to promise people something and then just leave them hanging. Poor script writing. 1
Thinking Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Some of you are being way too critical of the choices an actress made in a written script. I liked the message of the video. Although the one thing she really wanted to happen didn't (with no life altering consequences), there were other positive things (and possibly more important) that happened because of her involvement. 1
Rain Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Why in the world would "have the Spirit" come into some little video? I'm not sure what you are asking here.
