If Hugh Nibley Wrote A Tom Clancy Book...

I just got back from a lovely trip to Utah and Idaho.  As is my habit, I stopped in on several Deseret Book stores, a Seagull books, a DI, and even a public library. There were tons of interesting LDS books I had never heard of before, but I have to admit this one was the most interesting:

Obviously, the second I saw the title with an Egyptian monument on the cover, and in the fiction section, I knew it had to be interesting.  I skimmed through it, and it looks like a very, shall we say, "creative" book!

 

 

When FBI agent David Hunter is assigned to intercept terrorist communications in Egypt, he imagines an extended honeymoon with his new wife, April, exploring the ancient land and pyramids. He could not be more wrong. There is trouble in Cairo — a plot to bomb the American Embassy during a visit by the president of the United States — and time is running out. The agency needs David's sharp eye and cryptology skills to prevent a disaster.

But the more David uncovers the truth, the more the danger grows — not only for him but also for April — and the faster his enemies close in around him.

 

Ignoring anonymous warnings to leave the country, David and April find themselves hopelessly lost in a massive ancient burial complex known as the Necropolis — a series of tombs with hieroglyphics that seem to have a connection to the book of Abraham. If they can decipher the hieroglyphics correctly, they may find a way out. If not, they are certain to join the “City of the Dead.”

 

The book had tons of illustrations and pictures of the Anthon Caractors and Facsimiles, and a lot of exposition where David matches up the "Caractors" with inscriptions on the monuments.

When FBI agent David Hunter is assigned to decipher the mysterious code on a letter from Joseph Smith, everything goes wrong. The code is much harder to break than he'd imagined, complicated by the fact that someone has been stealing documents from the Church's Historical Department. And always in the back of his mind is his overwhelming need to translate an even stranger document: his grandfather's authentic copy of characters from the golden plates--a fading slip of paper he jokingly calls the Moroni Code.

But it's no joke. If he can work out the translation, it will mean Joseph Smith really was a prophet--and he can finally make sense of his own heritage, his own life. But first, he has to protect the Church--and time is running out.

With time short he must use his knowledge of old Israelite symbolism to establish peaceful communication with the Lost 10 Tribes living in the ice.

 

Seriously.....I really need to write LDS novels. If this kind of weirdness sells think of what I could do with a good book.
