When Joseph Smith delayed living polygamy as commanded an Angel with a drawn sword was sent to encourage him. Either the entire founding narrative of the church is a lie, or God was not opposed to leaving the priesthood ban in place until 1978.I know what I believe.-guerreiro9 Good. The restriction was placed by Brigham Young and the Church has disavowed all of the reasons given by past prophets and apostles. If you want to believe that God told President Young to do it, that's fine. But I think if there was any evidence of such, the Church would have included it in the recent essay on the topic.

Well, despite what we like to tell ourselves, we HAVE adapted somewhat.The Church is more popular than it has ever been. People still think we're a cult, but people like to talk about how nice those Mormon neighbors are, how family oriented, how hard working etc I mean, we've come a long way from being driven out of communities, states, and thrown in jail to where the biggest differences we have with the world are in the Word of Wisdom and the Temple ordinances. Today, we are only reviled for our stance on SSM and a perceived gender inequality. Everything else we believe is pretty acceptable to the world. In the early days we were considered treasonous cult members. Today we aren't because we have changed. Edited October 9, 2014 by JLHPROF

We need to not be total pariahs so we can get missionary work done. I expect it will pass soon enough. I already seen the trend changing.
