Rivers Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 What exactly is the difference between covenants we make at baptism and covenants we make in the temple? Are we not making the same promises?
Paddy Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 It's the way we make them and "authority" of the ordinance and covenants that "elevate" us and connects us deeper with God. Consider the progression Baptism - aaronic priesthood. Witnessed by aaronic preist hood and membersHG and confirmation - mel priesthood. Witnessed by mel priesthood and membersTemple - a progression of priesthoods and more "divine" witnesses. The deeper and more serious one makes a covenant through ordinance the greater the "blessing". The final blessing being exhalationJust my thoughts.
JLHPROF Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 What exactly is the difference between covenants we make at baptism and covenants we make in the temple? Are we not making the same promises? Baptism is ENTERING the new and everlasting covenant established by Christ. The covenants in the temple are 5+ covenants promised before God in accordance with receiving the blessings of the temple. We make covenants in the temple but they are part of the greater whole, the New & Everlasting Covenant between Christ and his Church.
VideoGameJunkie Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 The greater the covenant, the harsher the punishment when you sin.
Paddy Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 The greater the covenant, the harsher the punishment when you sin.Perhaps. But why would you not take the risk.
mfbukowski Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 What exactly is the difference between covenants we make at baptism and covenants we make in the temple? Are we not making the same promises? As if we could actually discuss this. One prefigures the other. Old Testament, new testament. Abraham and Isaac the Father and the Son etc
cdowis Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Perhaps. But why would you not take the risk. Why indeed, and you will certainly find the terrestrial kingdom to be very comfortable, living in the presence of Christ although excluded from the Father.
Rivers Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 The greater the covenant, the harsher the punishment when you sin.Or the grander the reward when you are righteous. Sounds like a gamble.
VideoGameJunkie Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 True, the greater the reward, but everyone sins so it's a toss up. To some it's better to not have received the gospel in this life, so they can receive it in the spirit world and all their sins be cleansed.

To some it's better to not have received the gospel in this life, so they can receive it in the spirit world and all their sins be cleansed. And all your sins can be cleaned if you receive it in this life as demonstrated by the weekly practice of the sacrament.

That's what I was trying to get to. I hate it when people can say in a few words what took yourself 100 words to say.... 1
