mfbukowski Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I have it on good authority that the pictures the church published, that they got from JS, prove he could not translate Egyptian. Not quite sure what you mean, but re the BOM, "translating" with a hat over your face, looking at a stone, with the plates in the other room, make it pretty clear that the word "translation" is not exactly being used in its usual meaning 1
Calm Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) Mola was making a joke about Gazza (his alleged good authority) in the other thread....where we are apparently delusional or irrational or are okay with lies. Edited August 19, 2014 by calmoriah 1
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Mola was making a joke about Gazza (his alleged good authority) in the other thread....where we are apparently delusional or irrational or are okay with lies.Correct. I was just bringing it to this thread as I did not want to derail MFB's thread. I mean the argument is silly because the facsimiles are not just "pictures". and his argument is really a simplistic "I don't want to think about it much" criticism.

Somebody was saying, just yesterday that it had been a long time since we had seen anybody fresh from a "witness to the Mormons" class.

ERayR Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 It has been a long time. Not now Gazza showed up.
MormonFreeThinker Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Anyone know when the church is going to publish a new essay? Is the Book of Abraham the final essay?
Buckeye Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Anyone know when the church is going to publish a new essay? Is the Book of Abraham the final essay? I have no idea on timing, though I recall many of the first essays came out on Fridays. As far as remaining "hot topics," the main one still remining IMO is Nauvoo-ear polygamy.
cinepro Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Anyone know when the church is going to publish a new essay? Is the Book of Abraham the final essay? I think it is. Now that they've successfully resolved all the concerns people have during "faith crises", we can go back to business as usual, and whatever the defection rate was it should drop precipitously as people find the essays on the Church website and have their doubts assuaged. 1
Rivers Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 It seems that the church takes a hiatus from producing the essays around General Conference time. They went a while without giving us one this last spring.I hope that the BOA essay isn't the last one. We still need the Nauvoo polygamy essay. And I would also like to see an essay on science.
MormonFreeThinker Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I hope that the BOA essay isn't the last one. We still need the Nauvoo polygamy essay. And I would also like to see an essay on science. I hope so too. A letter to church leaders (September 9, 2014) says, "the Church publishes reliable information on topics of current interest. This information is found in the Gospel Topics section of the Church’s website, at lds.org/topics." Notice that it says "the church publishes" it does not say "The Church published" Someone uploaded the letter, it can be found online.
