There was a similar heifer born at the Y2K time. A flaw was eventually found and the calf disqualified. I do find it interesting that the mitzvah is one which no one understands. It is just accepted as God's command . There are a couple of instances in our doctrine/policy that could be seen it the same way. It seems there are rare occasions in which God requires blind obedience. Kind of a heavenly parents response to queries with an " Because I said so! ".

I need to go buy some black paint. I have a prank to perform.

You are evil.:)

I think the big problem they will have is finding a priest to do it. I don't know many Saints who will do that;)

Apparently there is a bit of hubbub that the Red Heifer was found in the USA.  According to Jewish custom, finding one is prerequisite to rebuilding the temple and that it will be sacrificed by the Moschiach.

The story can be found here:

What do you guys think?

This was a big deal for Evangelicals in the last century, um around the 80's I think.  At that time, the group of churches I attended were very focused on that and the End Times, and tried to keep us all at a fever pitch and feverishly giving our money.  Idaho based Chuck Missler has this site. http://www.khouse.org/articles/1997/15/

There are plenty of priests (kohens) in Jerusalem, some of whom actually know how the ritual is done.  LDS people have nothing to do with the matter.  Finding a red heifer without blemish is no great achievement, and plenty of them have been bred over the years.  The real issue is, when to make the offering and spread the ashes on the Temple Mount.  Once that happens the countdown to ragnarok can begin.

Except you know having the Aaronic Priesthood which is necessary.

Except you know having the Aaronic Priesthood which is necessary.

Kohens are the primary priests by lineal descent (that is the priesthood descended from Aaron), while Levites are their helpers (deacons).  Both come from  the tribe of Levi, which is the priestly tribe in ancient and modern Israel.  The temple to be built in Jerusalem is a strictly Jewish matter.  Animal sacrifice will be offered there once again.

As it happens, LDS doctrine officially recognizes the lineal descendants of the priesthood of Aaron.  Indeed, were a kohen to join the LDS Church, he could potentially serve as a ward bishop without counselors.  Naturally, he would have to obtain approval first from the First Presidency.  LDS Aaronic priesthood is another matter entirely and is not authorized to serve in a bishopric.  For LDS, then, only Melchizedek High Priests served as bishops -- who are presidents of the Aaronic priesthood quorums of their wards, even though they are not Aaronic priests.  In other words, the HP serves in stead of the Aaronic kohen.  You'll find this laid out in the D&C.
