Avatar, What Does It Mean?

I think I am due for a change. I was thinking of changing to one of the grandkids or maybe a pope. Or the cat. There is a cat that I love, even if I don't think she gets to go to heaven (see the recent thread). Maybe I should let people vote on which they would rather see? Heh. No don't vote. I'll decide. Heh. I resisted avatars for the longest time. I'm not sure I remember why.

 

Mine is currently a photograph taken of my son and I on the occasion of his "receiving the cassock" a few years ago. He is about half way through seven years of seminary before he receives priestly ordination in 2017, God willing. Incidentally, my wife and I will be gone at the end of next week to attend ceremonies wherein tonsure, porter and lector, exorcist and acolyte, and subdiaconate, will be received by various seminarians. Our son will be taking what is called "first minor orders", which is porter and lector.    

 

What seminary is he attending?  FSSP, SSPX, ICRS? Or that uber-liberal diocesan seminary where Lutherans teach the classes on the Eucharist and the liturgy series includes guest lectures by dancers?

I vote for Pope John Paul II.  My favorite Pope.

 

Oh, yes, as to my avatar, that's a radio telescope.  One in the Goldstone Deep Space Complex. I picked Stargazer with a telescope avatar (this is the third telescope I've used here) because although I am a computer programmer by occupation, I am very interesting in astronomy.

 

I may be switching to a new avatar soon.
