Is Preisthood Optional For Worthy Male Members

"So IF they get the priesthood they would be Deacons, Teachers, Priests, Elders, High Priests etc"

If true this would require a radical restructuring of the Church. Every organization would be affected and need to change to one dregree or another except perhaps Sunday School.

A Levitical priesthood existed but we do not use it anymore. Offices within the priesthood are also mutable and have changed through the dispensations so there could be new offices or even the restoration of offices lost to our scriptural history.

Not sure I completely agree with this statement.  We still have all the Levitical offices under the auspices of the Aaronic Priesthood.  The High Priest of Aaron, or Aaronic High Priest would be what we call Bishop would it not?  An Evangelist is still what we call a patriarch.

I don't think priesthood offices themselves are mutable even if the names change a little in translation.

I think D&C 84:35-42 would apply equally to women as to men; in terms of it being optional part, we have some incentive: "...And wo unto all those who come not unto this priesthood..."

But I think D&C 84:35-42 applies to everyone, whether they have had the priesthood conferred upon them or not. Women just "receive" and "come unto" the priesthood in different ways than men.

Tried to ask this on the OW thread but I think it got lost in the noise. Is holding a Preisthood Office optional for worthy male members? I understand without holding the proper office a person can't go to the Temple but is being ordained optional or would one no longer be considered a member in good standing?

Of course it is optional.

The offices of Deacon and Teacher did not exist in the Levitical Priesthood. It is true that the powers of the Levitical Priesthood are (for the most part) now part of the Aaronic but the offices are not equivalent at all. The Aaronic Priesthood (as a separate entity) seems to have only been created in the time of Moses. You won't find the office of Patriarch in the ancient past either, the office existed by family.

The Aaronic High Priest is actually the equivalent of the Presiding Bishop and when the restoration is further along the descendants of Aaron will reclaim that office. Bishops on a local level do not really have an equivalent in the ancient world that we know of.

The names change but the offices can change as well. The office of the Seventy underwent a big revision only a few decades ago.
