Yes we are usually compassionate about suicide but we also know that when anyone dies here, however we die, we go to what we refer to as a spirit world and continue living there while knowing everything we knew while we were here, including having the same feelings about the things we knew while we were here. So in effect suicide doesn't change anything about what we knew here or how we fellt while we were here, except that we see that suicide didn't solve anything.

 

And btw, I was offering more information about what I know about suicide in response to the OP request for more information.

 

The account that I read quoted the mother as explaining that Bybee had suffered from mental illness much of his life.  So, if he is now free of that illness, he may very well feel differently than he felt here on earth under the confines of severe depression.

 

I don't wish for that to be taken as justifying suicide in anyway.  I'm just saying that when we look at it through the lens of mental illness, it may change our perception of this young man who is now in the spirit world.

 

Some (not necessarily on this forum) have suggested that his choice of locations may have been some kind of final protest against the church.  I think that there is a good possibility that he felt dying in the House of the Lord might have somehow provided him some comfort.  May not be logical to us, but one's thoughts in the midst of depression are not necessarily logical.

 

I mourn for his family.  And I feel sad for those youth who will have to deal with the loss of innocence.

Excellent, I was hoping they would pursue something like this.

UPDATE:  Yesterday, all the parents of the young women that were at the Las Vegas, Temple during the suicide, gathered in the third hour in the Young Women's class room.  The Bishop, and first counselor spoke, also a woman who was close friends with a close family female member who had actually been talking to Brother Bybee seconds before the incident occured shared her thoughts.  Two members of the Stake Presidency spoke, one a current Clark County Fire Chief who shared his experiences and asked if there were any questions,  the other the First counselor who shared a spiritual message.  The Stake President was ill and unable to make it.  The meeting went very well.  I wasn't aware until the meeting that a close friend of mine was there and approached the body seconds after Brother Bybee shot himself, to see if he could help.  I noticed in church before being informed of this that he was acting unusual. I had the opportunity to visit with him a few blocks over from my residence lastnight for about an hour.  He and his daughter seemed to be doing well.  He opened up about the details.  Very sad event.  I told him I was there to help anytime.  Counselors have been set up and I suggested during the meeting that they make another visit for baptisms in the next few weeks,  Sort of a "get right back on the horse after being thrown off" suggestion.  I'm Taking my daughter up there tonight for FHE, she is talkinging more about it everyday.  She's a strong young lady.  I'm Blessed.

Thank you again for the information.  It is good to know how strong the support is for the ward members.  Also it translates into likely being as strong or strong for the family and loved ones of the young man...it is reassuring to know that others are doing what one wants to do oneself.
