What Is Being Done On The 4Th Mission Of The Church?

There is one thing that church did that bothered me, which they probably have a reason for. In my area they took out the Humanitarian Centers that were inside the DI's, usually a designated room, that I'd go to, to get material or items to help with sewing bags for school kits etc. My extended family would do this instead of presents for Christmas. We of course would supply the school supplies to go in them. But it helped to have the material that was donated to the church from various sources. One year we cleaned dozens of surgical instruments from Russia that had rusted, along with putting together baby kits. Also, in the Bishop's Storehouse they discontinued new clothing like t-shirts and jeans that my friend, who is disabled, relied on. Little things, though big too.

I can see why many people would have trouble with this.   But it isn't really their TV they are typically retrieving.  Their TV was probably pawned to pay their light bill or the insurance payment.   Retrieving it allows them to have the ability to pay another bill later.  Pawn shops act much like a bank in some societies.

OTOH, it is troubling when one sees demands to help pay the rent, etc. at the end of the month knowing that the money meant for such was spent on fast foods, videos, games and other stuff that is packed around the house.

 

One needs to be careful in jumping to conclusions, but if one is intimately involved in the process, continuing to make excuses for careless spending habits is unwise and counterproductive in the long run.

that's a good point,  but it's just stuff that you kind of wonder about sometimes

Poverty isn't a sin. Just get rid of it as fast as you can.

 

For an organization of less than 15 million out of a population of over 7 Billion we do pretty good when helping the poor. Of course we could/should do better at all the 4 Missions of the Church.
