EllenMaksoud
Is there a source of movies, acceptable to Mormons, that I do not have to drive 15 miles to get to, and don't have me in tears? I have been using Netflix and Amazon, but either I have changed or the movies have gone down hill but lately they seem empty, even vapid and immoral to me! I do not have cable TV and do not seem to be able to find fun empty headed Mormon movies. Link to comment
Tacenda
Too bad the ma & pa video rental stores are so hard to find nowadays. My town has one nearby and carries all of the LDS movies. Any that you'd like to see specifically? Link to comment
boulder257
I understand what you are saying. I gave up on movies a long time ago. It is incredibly frustrating what sells in our current society. Link to comment
strappinglad
If you want empty headed fun , may I suggest the earlier Bollywood movies. . I spend a lot of time searching Netflix for good movies. They are rare. I have had some success in finding TV series that I have never seen and , as is often the case, were cancelled way too soon. Link to comment

And I seldom even rewatch my collection. Movies are 99% crap. Finding the good ones is either a consuming challenge or dumb luck. Or, someone you trust, who knows your tastes, recommends one, once in a while....Edit to add: that said, ironically, I ordered on Amazon yesterday: "The Avenging Angel", with Tom Berenger, a made for TV Mormon western flick from 1995. I have not seen this movie. A late friend had it on VHS, but it was at his other house, where his boys still lived, not in his then-current house, where he and his late wife had moved. I would go up once a week to keep in touch and watch movies and eat fast food. He had an impressively large collection of DVDs. He said that "The Avenging Angel" was worth a watch, that he liked it, but couldn't vouch for it being a "good" movie. I wanted to see it with him, but never got the chance. So on a whim, I ordered the DVD. Oh, and Charlton Heston plays BY and James Coburn plays Porter Rockwell! ... Edited August 9, 2013 by Questing Beast Link to comment

As a general rule I look at the rating, read the reviews, and listen to what others say about them before I decide. Link to comment
altersteve
As one who finds inspiration, life lessons, and even some gospel insights in almost anything, and who aspires to be a filmmaker one day, I have to disagree that 99 percent of movies are "crap." They still manage to crank out a masterpiece every now and then. I can give a list of several wholesome, powerful, inspiring, family-friendly films if you'd like. Calm
In order not to screw up links, it is best to have them on their own line so it doesn't automatically incorporate what follows and so it automatically converts to a link without having to use the link button:http://blog.beliefnet.com/moviemom/ Link to comment
canard78
IMDB has a parents guide for pretty much every movie ever made which gives a summary of the sex/violence/language in the film (or lack there of!).Have you tried any of the mail order DVD websites? You can find some great classics on there. For a while we had lined up some of the Hitchcock movies.Rear Window was outstanding. My wife and I agreed that the interaction between Stewart and Kelly's characters was one of the "sexiest" relationships we'd seen. Everyone keeps their clothes on Link to comment
