Johnnie Cake Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 For those still interested, Don has confirmed with me that he has or is in the process of making contact with my young prospective African missionary AKA Peter I'm posting from my iPhone so can't link to the threads on this subject. While I no longer believe neither do I wish to undermine the faith of this young man. I wish don all the luck in the world in assisting this young man. I still hold to the view that if the church were more forthright and put less importance on its public image it could acknowledge these issues, apologize for them and be able to move on. Kind of sounds like the repentance process the church teaches others to follow... I think they could create a lot of healing if they only followed there own advice.
canard78 Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Interesting. Hopefully this will at least put to rest all the naysayers accusing you of lying/fabrication. I find it an interesting illustration of the mind sets of some on this board: "that doesn't fit my world view, so you must be a liar." The conversation about Africa and satellite TV made me smile. I was sat on a train trundling from Bangkok towards south Thailand a while ago. There were tumble-down shacks within a few feet of the train-tracks. Held together with string and plastic sheeting to keep the monsoon rain out. But nearly every one of them had a satellite dish on the roof. I also saw people sat on stools outside their homes on laptops and smart phones. The notion that satellite TV and Facebook is the preserve of the rich is a little amusing.
Nevo Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Interesting. Hopefully this will at least put to rest all the naysayers accusing you of lying/fabrication.Sorry to disappoint you, but I am still not convinced that "Peter" is real. Don making contact with an anonymous individual via an e-mail address provided by Johnnie Cake hasn't really allayed my suspicions. But then again I am one of the denser posters on the board.

Don making contact with an anonymous individual via an e-mail address provided by Johnnie Cake hasn't really allayed my suspicions. But then again I am one of the denser posters on the board. Here's Don's comment in another thread...All,For what it may be worth, I followed up on what Johnnie Cake said on the board, and told me privately, about the young man in Africa with doubts about the Church. You probably saw how skeptical I was of all this, and of Johnnie Cake's self-presentation as a non-antagonistic former believer. To my surprise--I must admit, it all checks out. I now realize that I've encountered Johnnie Cake in other venues, and from what I know of him I believe he's a good guy who's trying to wrestle out what his relationship should be to his former faith. And, to top it off, I'm also in touch with the young man in Africa, who now no longer believes.I think Johnnie Cake's approach of loading the young man up with more and more difficult issues was surely mistaken. And it's one I hope he won't take in the future. But at this point I have no serious doubt that Johnnie Cake is sincere in how he presents himself and has been honest about the young man he has spoken with.Since I previously cast aspersions on his story and his overall self-presentation, I think I owe it to him to make this change of mind public. I hope he'll be welcome in discussion here despite disagreeing at a pretty fundamental level with the majority of us here who are believing Latter-day Saints.Don

Admittedly I do not know you well, but from the threads that you have been involved in on this forum I have not seen you address any issues that you feel the Church needs to apologize for. I have seen you repeatedly complain that the Church did not make you aware of all of its history, but I have not seen you addressing the parts you did not know, simply that you did not know. You have also given repeated suggestions that if the Church made more of its history known that more people would not fall away from the Church. I can only presume that you are speaking somewhat from personal experience (as we all do).I am not trying to make this a personal attack, but you're somewhat of an enigma to me. You no longer believe in the Church, but the only reason I have seen you give is that there were aspects of Church history you were unaware of. You're trying to help people stay in a Church you no longer believe in, and giving suggestion on how you think the Church could improve overall.I have to ask (but you don't need to answer) if you had been aware of more historical aspects of the Church at an earlier date do you think you would have stayed in the Church? Are there any issues you think the Church needs to apologize for, or do you just think they need to apologize to you for not making you more aware of historical information?-guerreiro9 Edited June 29, 2013 by guerreiro9

Johnnie Cake Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) Why would it be hard? When I signed up, Facebook just put up the info I gave it.I appreciate you thinking that I am smart enough to create a plot so perfect in every aspect to not only deceive Don, a professional researcher, but to also have every detail of my back story remain consistent and check out in every way so as to satisfy Don's initial skepticism of my claims and persuade him that my FB friend Peter is real. I appreciate the compliment…but #1 I’m not that evil nor #2 do I have the mental energy to maintain such a charade Edited June 29, 2013 by Johnnie Cake
Calm Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I am not claiming anything about your situation, I only asked a technical question of why it would be hard to make false Facebook profile.

I think the prophet should make sure he gets the right signals from the Lord before prophesying, maybe a visitation just like JS, if that even occurred. Why are there so many different versions of that occurrence? I want an apology from leaders if it divides families because of certain teachings that might or might not be wrong. Why is it we're to follow the prophet, or living one if what they say now might be changed in the future or could be wrong at any given moment? I want to know why we went from believing Jesus is God in the flesh to what we now believe! I think it's frustrating how we evolved to what we now believe. If God was running this church how could he have got it all wrong, play games with us, I don't think so. Doctrines in the church that were vital to our salvation before and now have nothing to do with our beliefs as far as the media are aware. I want an apology for things said or done in the name of God that were wrong. I want the Saviour Jesus Christ to be front and center in every meeting I go to at church. Not in a round about way, front and center.

Ask these questions in the discussion forum, and you will receive some good answers. Nature of God, playing games with us, what was vital to our salvation and no longer is--many issues here. 1
ERMD Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 " I want the Saviour Jesus Christ to be front and center in every meeting I go to at church. Not in a round about way, front and center. "He is. We call it the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. 2
