ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Here is the lay of the land in NZ:http://www.nonprofit...ulture-war.htmlhttp://thedailyblog....ut-of-religion/http://liberation.ty...uns-new-ze.htmlA us site: http://taxthechurches.org/A legitimate question is,"is the promotion of religion a charitable activity"?Only those activities that directly relate to the accomplishment of its religious activities (i.e. proselytizing and charitable activities).
tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 That includes your tax deduction for tithes and offerings, property taxes for all church own building, etc. There should be no tax deduction for tithing. If you get a tax deduction for tithing you are not really paying tithing. Period. What sacrifice are you making?
Senator Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 You forget your history: most of Nevada was part of Utah for a very long time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_TerritoryOnly for about 16 years. That's not very long.
tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Very simple. If you discriminate against SS marriage, you lose the right to perform marriages. Your religious rights are "preserved", but you cannot discriminate with couples who have a marriage license. I can see that happening within a decade in certain states. So, no marriages performed in the temple, only sealings. This does not lead to Gays being allowed to being married in religious ceremonies. Freedom of religion is still alive and well. These judges are not crooked, they would never allow such a thing.
tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Put yourself in the place of actually being there and watch this video:http://abclocal.go.c...tory?id=6493052That is called freedom of speech. You want people to give that up but keep freedom of religion. I thought we supported the Constitution!!!
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I did not read anything about the Temple being attacked. What I did read, however, is similar stuff said to members that members say on a regular basis about gays. It is despicable what is said on this forum, which mostly educated people frequent. I can only imagined what is said by the less educated.A pretty elitist statement. Why would you think a person with less education would say things more offensive than "us educated folks"? 1
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 There should be no tax deduction for tithing. If you get a tax deduction for tithing you are not really paying tithing. Period. What sacrifice are you making?Depending on tax bracket and other deductions most people get 0 to 30% benefit and it is a legitimate authorized tax deduction for those that can use it. Have you turned down any legitimate tax deductions lately. 1
Senator Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Quite true, it will become an change to the law of the Land and then we will experience the wrath of God. We as Americans are losing our morals and our way.No, there are a some Americans losing their morals and their way. Lets not get carried away.
tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Gay marriage is legal at the federal level. More states will also adopt gay marriage rights. Victory is theirs! Accept it, move on.You guys lost prop 8 fair and square. This is why, we vote for people to represent us. Well guess what, the people who represent Californians chose not to support prop 8 at the Supreme Court. People with no immediate interest fought for prop 8. Based on past cases that has never been allowed to happen. Don't give me this crap about how you were not represented fairly, this is what a republic looks like. Vote different next time...As soon as I am done reading the voting rights act ruling I will read both of these more in-depth and get back to you. So far, all three cases look like the right choices by the justices.
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 That is called freedom of speech. You want people to give that up but keep freedom of religion. I thought we supported the Constitution!!!Both are constitutional. The problem is when one jeopardizes the other especially with violence or the threat of violence. 1

tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Both are constitutional. The problem is when one jeopardizes the other especially with violence or the threat of violence. The first aggressive act was somebody taking a sign off the Temple fence. That lead to arguing, that is it, right? On top of that the only person arrested was one who supported prop 8.
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 For every ten you get 3 back?Depending on what tax bracket you are in and if you are able to itemize. A great many pay tithes and offerings and get no deduction.Again I ask, have you refused your deduction for tithes and offerings? 1
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 To be fair we are finding some and losing others. I am always leery of praising the good old days of traditional values including racism and underpaying women.I said nothing of "the good old days", nor endorsed racism. I was support the Prophet and scripture. Seems both are out of style. Assuming supporting Prophets and Apostles...as well as God our father is wrong. What has happened to so many in the Church, beginning to wonder if I just don't fit in anymore.
Bikeemikey Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 I don't know what you mean. I am pointing out that violence against the Church and its members on a wholesale level is only a thread away.By that metric violence against everyone on a wholesale level is only a thread away.
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 (edited) The first aggressive act was somebody taking a sign off the Temple fence. That lead to arguing, that is it, right? On top of that the only person arrested was one who supported prop 8.There is also something in the constitution about property rights. Whose property was the fence? Who were the trespassers? Not arrested but taken into protective custody. That means taken into custody to keep them from getting hurt by unruly people that the police couldn't or wouldn't control. Bikeemikey Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 Quite true, it will become an change to the law of the Land and then we will experience the wrath of God. We as Americans are losing our morals and our way.In countries there this change has already occurred (most of the current countries where the church practices there does not seem to have been an unleashing of the wrath of god... unless i missed it where I am from. 1
ERayR Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 By that metric violence against everyone on a wholesale level is only a thread away.Sleep tight.

I do not see the downward spiral so many seem to see. I also support the prophet but I do not believe we are in the final downward spiral or that this is a precursor to the collapse of government and the Second Coming. 1

Senator Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 What has happened to so many in the Church, beginning to wonder if I just don't fit in anymore. I don't understand; what "has happened to so many in the church"?
tyler90az Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 A pretty elitist statement. Why would you think a person with less education would say things more offensive than "us educated folks"?I am like the polar opposite of an elitist I believe everyone is entitled to the same treatment.
