Trying Too Hard

Glenn,

I apologize for assuming you were directing your comments at me. This just happens to be a post I started and you also commented the same thing on another thread right behind my post.

As far trying to engage in a number of impressions competition that is far from the truth. I am trying to help you master your doubts, as it appears you have doubts about my/others spirituality level. Which appears to be a roadblock on focusing on your own spirituality. Also just to let you know, I never told you how many impressions I acted on, few, or that this is my first time ever recording in a journal.

Has been joyful,

Tyler

Tyler, I have no opinion, make no judgement as to the level of spirituality of you or anyone else who posts on this board.

I maybe should have noted in my original post that I was talking about many different posts and blogs about General Conference I have seen, both here on this board and around the internet.

As far as the impressions are concerned, I was just responding to your question as to how many impressions I had while watching the last General Conference. I have no idea now why you asked me the question, since you said it was not to cpmpare, so I will just let it drop.

Brother Glenn,

The reason I asked those questions was to make you think and maybe, if you do not, inspire you to keep a journal of your own.

As you decided to be the bigger man and drop it; I will agree with that also. This is rather silly for both of us to be arguing.

Glenn,

I am moldable like clay in a potters hand, my views frequently change based on this forum. Discussion is for knowledge and insight. To not ask questions and discuss is to not progress.

IMNSHO It is a bit dangerous to change your views because of this or any other forum. Discussion is great and necessary by view changes should come through confirmation from the Holy Ghost.

There is no point in having a discussion if you are not willing to change your opinion.

I'm completely unwilling to change or recant my testimony (opinion) on the foundations of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ (the divine origin of the Book of Mormon, the reality of the Priesthood restoration keys included, the importance of the Temple and all other ordinances, etc...), so does that mean I should excuse myself from certain related discussions?

I do not wish to come across as confrontational or contentious. I really am asking what you think I should do, given your statement.

Thanks. :)

(I admit that I do find myself appreciating greater nuances of truth, line upon line, and greater light, but the central truths are the same and are so integrated that the house cannot stand were it's foundation removed)

To defend the faith unwavering is one thing, even a great thing, Gillebre. To defend every single little belief you have is just foolishness. That is actually a major problem of the human condition. People are unwilling to change on anything. They think something is right and just defend it without actually thinking about other perspectives. You see this a lot in political discussions and discussions about nuances of the gospel.

It boggles my mind why people are not able to change their opinions on things. Something as simple as an interpretation of scripture. They will never admit they are wrong, would rather just defend it foolishly.

I try to always rise up above my opinion and look at it from a neutral perspective. If your not open to change that is utter foolishness. You can never develop and grow.

Now I will agree with ErayR that the Holy Ghost is the ultimate source of knowledge. If you are perfectly in sync with the Holy Ghost you need to read no books to find out all knowledge. That knowledge will be available by the whisper of the spirit. The problem is nobody is perfectly in sync with the holy ghost. We will not be perfect in anyway well on this earth. That is why discussion is a useful tool in growing.

You misunderstood. I did not advocate not ever changing your opinion. What I said is that it dangerous to make that change because of information received on an internet board. If change is to be made it should be done only with the approbation if the Holy Ghost.

I do not believe the Holy Ghost will reveal all knowledge to you no matter how in sync you are. You must make the effort to aquire the information then apply the Moroni test. I just think one should be careful about changing because of an internet forum debate.

I see I got two upvotes on that one. My new plan for the future is to generate as many upvotes on this board as possible, to offset my business success/failures. Too bad there's no connection between upvotes and financial remuneration, but I want to be a success at SOMETHING at least.

You must be talking about big changes of belief.

Clearly the fist-pump is one of the secret handshakes of Young Progressives and is anathema to the true religion of Old Geezers.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. :diablo:

Tyler, I don't know that I exactly agree with you on that point. Truly, Moroni did tell us in Moroni 1);5 that "by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." I would expect that we can both agree that the Holy Ghost does know all things, and that the Holy Ghost can impart that knowledge to us mortals. However, I would expect that if a person were perfectly in tune with the Holy Ghost, he or she would try to "work things out in" his or her, "own mind", by reading, pondering, and study, before looking to the Holy Ghost for help when the answer still was not forthcoming.

I do believe that the Holy Ghost can and will enlighten our minds and enhance our abilities to understand secular learning, but I also believe that He will require us to exercise our own due diligence in going as far as we can usingthe native intelligence and abilites that we received from God in the beginning.

So. maybe I am splitting hairs here. What do you think?

It may be just the opposite. The stronger faith you have in the Holy Ghost makes you pray about it first. Then you will be directed to what you are asking. It could mean you are directed to read, ponder and/or study. The more we progress the more we become our true-selves. In other words, the Holy Ghost knows us, he will know rather or not we are able to work for something. Then knowledge comes by that whisper of the spirit. Then eventually that glorious day we are truly in-sync or one with Christ. It would then be no longer considered the Holy Ghost, just ourselves.

The way you stated is just to confirm what you learned as truth or not. Which I think the Holy Ghost also does.

I am not very much in sync I rarely ask first.
