CV75 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Yes, but if God is omnipotent, all-knowing, etc., he already knows which decisisions we will make, which paths we will choose, and essentially, he knows our destiny long before we ever arrive on this earth.If god's knowledge is perfect, he already knows the mistakes that we will make in this life, no?His knowledge is perfect, which is the outgrowth of His perfect use of His agency and His faith. But where He has given us agency He cannot use our agency at the same time we do, and so can only observe how we use our agency to know what we do in “real time.” Knowledge is not static, but is always expanding, since it forms the substrate for the faith and spiritual nourishing processes, which then lead to more knowledge.I think His foreknowledge on the other hand has to do with His ability to perfectly predict (as far as we are concerned) the cumulative outcomes of our observed past and current choices. With this foreknowledge, He places opportunities, even moment to moment, for us to alter those outcomes. This includes the “lost pages” example, where He knew the mind, attitude, tendencies, options, etc. of Satan centuries in advance of the actual occurrence and prepared accordingly.
Ahab Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Ran into a friend from YSA days today, she hasn't been active in about 10 years, nice girl though. She was saying how she had to move from her apartment and had to live temporarily with some friends and joked about being homeless then she said 'it's all part of God's plan I guess' Which got me thinking I don't know what got her having to move outta her place or what but does God's plan include our mistakes or just plain bad decisions or does our mistakes and bad decision frustrate God's plan for us? How can you tell if your life is going well or messing you over in God's view? like what is a bad decision if everything you do is according to God's plan or are you permanently off course if you make one bad decision and you've now messed up God's plan for your life-i.e. I recall Pres. Hinckley not continuing that job with the train thing during WW2 and returning to church sevice, if he continued would he not have been the President? or could God intervene and say enough with the Trains I need you over here!This should include spelling mistakes!There's a difference between God's plan for our life and God's will for our life. His plan includes repentance when we make bad decisions in our own lives, but it's never his will for any of us to make bad decisions. We usually learn as we go, though, and sometimes it can be helpful to us if we have to learn the "hard" way rather than by doing things God's way, which is always the best decision.

We fail because of our own weaknesses. The question that could be asked is, are our weaknesses which cause us to make poor decisions given to us by God to help teach us? I doubt mental illness is part of our eternal nature for example.Jesus at one point complained about being homeless. Was that a choice?

Was that a choice?Are you talking about Matthew 8:19-20? “And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.”I don’t see this as a complaint, but a frank depiction of what was expected of those joining His mortal ministry. I think He voluntarily took on such working conditions, and anyone working with Him would have to as well.

He even went on a violent cleaning spree there twice to try to get it ready.
