Duncan Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 very cool! nice to see what people actually looked like, brings you closer to the early days of the restoration
Gohan Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Now that's flippin cool right there...thanks for sharing Bill.
LifeOnaPlate Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Awesome, nice work by Bryce. That's a good looking picture, and the color fleshes it out nicely.
Sky Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 That was wonderful.. thanks for sharing. I've always wondered what the early leaders of the Church looked like, as well as their personalities and temperaments. This gets us one step closer to finding out.
LifeOnaPlate Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It seems kind of funny, Sky, but the cover of Days Never to Be Forgotten was probably my favorite part of the book. Wish we had a photo of JS too.
sunstoned Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 This is a nice find. The color really helps to personalize Oliver Cowdery in a way that paintings and drawings can't. 2
wayfarer Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Very nicely done, Bryce. It's beautiful work.
Tacenda Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 He's a handsome guy, the colorization is incredible.
wayfarer Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) He's a handsome guy, the colorization is incredible. It brings Oliver to life--it's almost magical in its quality. The depth of his gaze, the slight furrowing of the brow, the character of the smile, and as Bryce has chosen specific coloring, how that coloring adds so much life to the expression. The color brings out the seriousness of the man, the intensity of his eyes, while having an openness of his near-smile that says, "I really would like to get to know this guy". Looking at the Tiff file in detail, zooming into the hands, the buttons on the vest, the attention to detail that Bryce had as he restored this.Phenomenal work, actually. As artistic of a rendition as I might think possible. Now, if we only had such an image of Joseph Smith -- the pictures of Joseph always seem to 'hagiographic' to me.one thing i note -- the buttons on his shirt and vest are on an atypical side for male attire (almost like looking at a mirror image) -- I wonder if that was characteristic of the attire of the day, or if the the image is reversed as was often the case with a daguerrotype.
