KevinG Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Taught for a long time does not mean teach today. Remember the context of those quotes. The Saints were definitely under a great deal of persecution. These are also in the context of a period full of polemics and debate between religions.I would like to think we have grown up a bit having new light and knowledge. I would rather associate with Saints who know to appreciate the work of building God's kingdom on earth no matter the denomination vs. the approach of perpetuating misunderstanding and contention. 1
jwhitlock Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Light bedtime reading: http://www.amazon.com/What-Mormons-Believe-Robert-Bowman/dp/0830837701Well, he managed to round up five people to praise him for his book. And wouldn't you know it, after reading the book, some of them were happy that they now knew the truth about them false Christian Mormons. Must be a real civil book about us, with no generalizations.Not. Edited December 31, 2012 by jwhitlock

juliann Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 These are just a few examples. No they are not. Try again. 1
Calm Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Ah yes, I saw that after he said he's written some books. I'm surprised it isn't called "What Mormons REALLY Believe".The answer that is really a "nonanswer" appears to be a favourite claim of his. 1

That's the context of these particular quotes. We've supplied you with current quotes and explanations concerning the current attitude of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints towards those of other faiths and denominations. You choose to ignore those and instead claim that these kinds of quotes represent what we really think. That, Rob, is why I find what you write to be inherently dishonest in nature. You don't want to understand, you just want to misrepresent us according to your own biases.
Ares Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 This is off topic. I allowed my original thread closure to be overridden but at this point the baseless accusation made against "some Mormons" is not supportable and the ongoing debate is not appropriate for the social forum.Start new threads if you want to debate specific doctrinal or historical issues.
