Church Leaders Congratulate President Obama

I didn't vote but I was secretly hoping Romney would win just so I could see how he would do things differently (and not to see if he would fail...I hope I'm not that petty). I made the mistake of voting for Obama in 2008 but was unsure of how to correct my mistake. While social issues are important to me, I do believe that economical issues deserve more attention. If I had voted, I think I would have gone with Romney.

I know...a gay-humanist-Communist rooting for a filthy Republican should more than earn me a warm and cozy place in the lake of fire.

Be that as it may, taken with the rest of your statement you have my respect.

First thing I thought of except for the military issue. Canadians are proud of their Peacekeepers! We had a Naval Base in Calgary even...don't ask me why a landlocked city would have one, I am sure it made sense to the builders.

My husband is of the opinion that Obamacare isn't really socialised medicine, but merely a confused collection of rules whose only result will be to make everything more difficult and more expensive. It will be interesting to see if his prediction that we will end up having to pay thousands in insurance for our diabetic daughter in a few years when she turns 26 will come true. I am wondering is severe social anxiety qualifies for disability (she is unable to attend school or get a job...or leave the house at time).

If we were in Canada we wouldn't be worrying about her, but maybe the income difference makes up for it.

Tell your husband that thanks to The Affordable Care Act his daughter can't be denied insurance because of her pre-existing condition.

Most definitely. We are left with the same make-up in Congress and the WH that we had before and as we see no one could agree on anything.

The democrats picked up seats in House and Senate.

This election was very emotional and the result not being known til the end, well even the best of people may need time to adjust to disappointment. I don't think Deborah was thinking about the level of wickedness, but rather the stubbornness she feels is being displayed (she can of course correct me if I am wrong).

If I am right, then that is significantly different. I also think that because of the level of wickedness involved the comparison is not a wise one and Deborah needs to be clearer on what she means. If it is stubbornness, my opinion is that it seems almost universal at this point among whatever group there is out there...at least the vocal parts of them, but I am an optimist and my hope is that appearances are very deceiving right now and once the adjustment period is over with, people will wake up to what needs to be done and work together to find solutions that may not make everyone happy, but at least can be lived with. A lot of countries have managed to do so, I see no reason why it can't happen here though it may approach a miracle if it happens without some major catastrophe forcing it. But I believe in miracles and will keep praying for one.

There seems to be an undercurrent of extreme dislike for President Obama on a personal level. I have seen it on this Board, and I have seen it at the bookstore where I spend some time in retirement. More than one customer has referred to the President as "evil," and become indignant when I reveal that I am not on the same page as them. I do so gently because they are, after all, the customer--but they are not always right.

Disagree with President's policies and vision for America, fine, but keep it on an even keel. The man is not evil. He is, by all accounts an honest, loving father. He is faithful to his wife and loves his children. Supporting a woman's right to seek an abortion does not make him evil, Saints Alive; many Latter-day Saints are pro-choice. I can support someone's right to choose without condoning the choice made in all cases.

Being stubborn is not always a vice. Some would call it being principled Even so, I fail to see where President Obama has exhibited any extreme stubbornness. To the extent that Deborah's vitriol was directed at the universal stubbornness exhibited in Washington (which she seems to have indicated), then her lament about not praying for President Obama because of Moroni's presumed example was indicative of the personal level of her dislike for the President, and I find that sad.

Nevertheless, I understand and appreciate the role you play as a peacemaker Calmoriah. The Board needs more of that.

Did I say anything about not praying. No. I said I don't have much hope for it. He has been very hard to work with and I don't see anything changing. I find it sad that you read what you want to in people's comments.

I'm sorry if I read more into what you wrote than what you meant. What you had originally wrote was,

Unfortunately I don't think our prayers will have much impact on Obama. But I do pray for our country and those righteous leaders who will try to alleviate the effect of some of his actions.

I, perhaps injudiciously, read into that an implication that President Obama and his politics were unrighteous, and your later post seemed to confirm that with your comment about Moroni. If your only criticism is that President Obama has not been willing to sacrifice all of his principled politics for the sake of the Republican agenda, then I apologize for reading more into what you wrote than what you intended.

However, it will be well to remember some of the things that have happened over the past four years. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declaring the goal of Congress to be limiting the President to a single term, and President Obama compromising on the extension of the Bush tax cuts so the middle class would not face a tax increase.
