That's awesome you love speaking! I would rather sing for an hour than give a 5 minute talk. When I give talks, I usually can't eat a thing up to two days before. I even get nervous while writing talks. The first talk I gave, I seriously thought I was going to have a heart attack. Doesn't make any sense that I have no problem singing at the last minute. The hardest musical number I ever did was at my friend's funeral. I was pregnant, sick, and sang right after her crying children sang with some other kids in our ward. I managed not to cry with my iron will and amazingly no one could tell I had a bad cold.

My Patriarchal blessing says I was one of the morning stars who sang for joy. Thus my name. Coincidentally, it's also the Native American name my aunt gave me when I was about 9.

I finally made the connection in my head when I saw this thread for the second time though you might have mentioned it before. You know how somethings don't stick in the memory because it hasn't found the proper place to reside in. I could swear this time I hear a "click" when everything slide into place, lol.

Fascinating about it also being your NA name as well.

My husband is a college prof so he's generally pretty comfortable by now. However, he says there is still a small part of him that is yelling at times "what the heck am I doing here!!" when he is up front and all eyes are on him.

I think it is so intereting that even the most experienced speakers have their weak spots... I just found out the other day that HImself, one of the cutting edge men internationally in his field, and teaching University classes for 20 years now, STILL is not thrilled to see me in his audience. He gets too nervous. I thought he got over that a decade ago...and he is SUCH a fabulous speaker I love his classes. I can even understand the basic classes for first years in Dutch. The quantum cutting and dots and up conversions , not even in English. At least he doesn't go white and tremble from nerves anymore....

...I wonder if I wore a disguise if I could sneak in?

Woo hoo! Come sing a duet with me! I'll keep that in mind. If I slow it down too much, some of the longer phrases will be a lot harder to get through.

It will be a while before I am Stateside again I am afraid- although New Orleans is a possibility in March if China doesn't get in the way...alas, I will have to sing with you only in my head for a while yet. Like I said, the style suggestion is only a comment, not a critique. I know you were practicing...like I tell my singers, tell the story, draw the word picture. Just thinking through the phrases sometimes is enough to make the message happen without changing tempo. Since I have started with a CPAP I find my long phrases are getting shorter....that and at 62 I am starting to deteriorate because I don't sing as much anymore---just church stuff.

Stargazer, how was you talk today? Hope it was great!

My song went well, but by the time the first adult speaker was finally done, I had to go to the bathroom really bad. I hate it when that happens. Later my friend told me her son asked her, "Why is she up there singing pretty? You should try singing pretty!" I really needed the laugh. I just said goodbye to my brother last night because he's being deployed for a year. That hymn is his favorite, which is why I chose it. We got to sing it with our sister years ago when he was leaving for Iraq. It was 3 days after my third son was born. People thought I was crazy. My son was blessed because I really wanted my brother to be there and then we sang. I was afraid it was our last chance to sing together, so I knew I would regret it if we didn't do it. It definitely wasn't my best singing ever, but I didn't care.

I can tell when something sounds good or bad but I can not tell whether it is done correctly or not. I do love that music which sounds good to me and your music sounded very good.
