His claim that Mitt Romney, as a High Priest, must be "party to this fraud." But Park was a High Priest too. Is he admitting that he was "party to this fraud" thereby?For people with virtually no background in understanding Mormon Priesthood callings, it sounds awfully important. But for the rest of us, Park Romney's narrative sounds a little something like this: I held many high, powerful, and influential callings in the Church, such as hymnbook coordinator, and chapel Cheerio sweeper-upper. It's just the kind of material you'd expect from someone like Tricia Erickson, Rocky Hulse, or Bill Schnoebelen.
Stargazer Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I particularly like his self published book "The Apostacy of a High Priest".Those in the know - know that being a High Priest means you have been in a Stake Calling or served as a Bishop's Counselor. But "The Apostasy of a Guy Who Once Served as A Local Unit Counselor" just doesn't have the same ring to it.Who needs to be shunned when you're that distantly related? Just because, to the best of my knowledge, I've never even met somebody to whom I'm that distantly related doesn't mean we're shunning each other. But hey, if one's got an axe to grind, I guess any stone'll do!P.S.: Park, apparently, is speshul! (Or at least, he wants people to think he is!) "I'm not just Brother J. Hicken McFarland who left the Church! I'm a High Priest!" People will see his book and say to themselves, "Oooh! He's a Mormon High Priest! Those aren't a dime-a-dozen!" But what they don't realize is that most old farts who stick around long enough and are reasonably active will eventually become High Priests ... by default if for no other reason! Yeah, I was ordained HP because I got too old to leave me in Elder's Quorum any longer. I'm a really hot commodity in the Church, for sure.

I was on the other end of the spectrum and was called into a Bishopric when I was 30. Boy did I feel out of place. The High Priests are very cool to me and act like I have something to teach them when its my turn to run the class.

We have a couple of active Elders who in their 60s, who don't seem to quite have that certain "je nais se qua". One of them just got called to be the Ward Clerk. But then he was inactive most of his life after graduating from BYU, and only started coming back to church five years ago.They were content to leave me and another brother of about the same age as Elders until we were approaching 50, and then seemingly for no reason (we had both been attending HP group already anyway) we were called to be HP, a few months apart.You get called to the HP quorum either because of one's church position, or because one has become "mature" in the Gospel. It's the same Priesthood with the same authority, just different aspects of it.

I usually reserve being offended for those who do so intentionally. Although Brother Brigham once said that to get offended in that circumstance was just as bad.When I was a teenager I used to imagine that offices in the Priesthood were ranks. Being a closet (and not-so-closet when I was in the Army) military afficionado, at that time I devised a system of rank insignia for it all. Hah. Haven't thought of that in decades.I've known some quite young High Priests, yes. One of my younger friends was called into our bishopric at the ripe old age of 29. Now he is in the stake high council. He's a most delightful sort of down-to-earth individual, and fun to be around. He'd probably make a good bishop one of these days.
