Cobalt-70 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) What happens when there are more than 12 Deacons, 24 Teachers, 48 Priests, or 96 Elders? I suppose generally the ward would split before there were 96 Elders or 48 Priests, It would seem that in a larger ward it would be entirely possible for there to be more than 12 deacons. Does anyone have any experience with this or know what happens? Is a second Deacon’s quorum formed?Originally, before wards were invented in Nauvoo and then later in Salt Lake turned into church (rather than political) organizations, and the smallest church organization was the stake, this revelation had more meaning, because each stake congregation would have multiple quorums of deacons, teachers, priests, and elders, and one or more bishops to handle the strictly mechanical operations of the stake. It was a way to divide up a large stake, which met as a single congregation, into reasonably-sized priesthood units. Edited December 9, 2011 by Cobalt-70

They were merged when many became teachers before I became part of the Presidency so didn't see much of it from the inside. When I was President we almost went over the limit again but then several families moved out and I was allowed to continue to reign supreme.MWAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I think there is a reason I was never given Priesthood keys again.

My son wanted to be Deacon's Quorum President, but after I explained the difference between being a "boss" and being a "leader", he lost his interest.

ERMD Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 One question I always asked while I was in the Singles ward is why we never organized the Priests quorum because there were usually enough priests and the Bishop is the President of that quorum. It always seemed like it might be good to have the priests who could support one another rather than lost in an Elders quorum as prospective elders. But I don't recieve the inspiration. So that sufficient to me.Once a male church member reaches his 19th birthday, he becomes a prospective elder. If he is still in high school, he may continue to participate in the priests quorum. In a singles ward though, he would be part of the elders quorum.

The hope is that all 18+ will be ordained Elders sooner rather than later.

I just think perhaps we might be able to use the priests quorums differently in singles wards. Of course, I don't have any keys for that, so Ill let the Lord take care of that.

Of course, I don't have any keys for that, so Ill let the Lord take care of that. It's a nice thought, I think the main thing preventing it would be the perception of seperation. I think the Lord wants to prevent an us vs. them (i.e. New member vs. established members) mentality. Instead they hope that the fellowship with the ordained elders will encourage new members to prepare to recieve the priesthood.
