Senator:

It is always appropriate to question in the right time and venue. Neither one of those conditions exists here. If you have a question concerning the building of what is essentially a sound stage. Ask the Church directly.

When would be the right time?

As far as venue goes; bringing the doings of the lds church up on a lds discussion forum is not the right venue? I disagree.

Besides, if I asked the church directly, one of the questions I would want to pose is, "what is the cost of this project"?

Do you think I would get an answer?

Having taught Primary and being a visual learner as well (get much more out of reading a talk than hearing one, had to take notes to remember lectures...never had to read the notes again, just had to write them down....hardly ever forget a TV or movie scene), I can testify that accuracy in portrayal can have a great effect on helping someone 'get it' or if done wrong, can lead to misconceptions. When the Lamb of God came out there was more than one reason that it had such an impact as opposed to previous efforts that looked like someone got Mom's washing off the line for dressup. I loved the scripture videos that had the actors talking in Aramaic rather than English as well, it reminded you that it was a different place and time and caused you to step out of the box, maybe even put aside some of your assumptions and thus aid in learning something new.

I think it helps to have something as realistic as possible so long as the realism does not become distracting from the central story....unless portraying how things really were is the story.

How does one "ask the Church directly"? I suppose a letter to the Communications Director asking for his set budget, or perhaps the Presiding Bishopric would do.

I wonder what kind of reply one would get if they called Martha Stewart and asked what her rolling pin budget was?

One might never know.

... What do you think? Is it really necessary to have realistic video productions in order to better understand the life and mission of Jesus?

... If we talking about the times and places of his mortal ministry downtown Chicago of 2011 wouldn't be high on my list of places to represent as his being there.

"If we talking"? Hooked on Ebonics worked for me! B:):D
