One Clear Voice Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 As I prepare to go to Church tomorrow, I look back at last weeks Easter Sacrament meeting. I attented another Ward that had the usual speakers and a Violin special number. It seems to me that in years past the Church has always had a big special Easter program with the Choir doing several numbers and a narrator such as the Christmas program does. When I finished the day in my own Ward, the same thing. Talks a musical solo and more talks. Is this only happening here in the U.S. or is this Church wide?
Traela Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 How Easter is celebrated varies from ward to ward. There are actually some oldtimers in the Church who think that "we don't need to celebrate Easter, because we celebrate it every week when we take the Sacrament." Yeah, whatever. Part of the problem, I think, is that Easter moves around so the bishopric forgets about it.We had a problem with this in our ward. Then my DH was put in the bishopric and I let him know that I expected a proper Easter program every year. And I got it. Last year our new bishop forgot about Easter. I let him know I didn't think this was acceptable. Since I was having a bad day anyway, tears were involved. So this year we at least sung Easter hymns and had an extra musical number. Not quite up to my standards, but I appreciate the effort. Anyway, if your ward doesn't seem to do a proper Easter, I suggest approaching the bishop early next year and gently ask for a little more celebration.

I thought that sounded wrong, so we decided to go 100 miles north to our cabin for the weekend and attend church at the ward up there. We got up early Sunday morning to drive the 1/2 hour to church and... they were "closed" for Stake Conference too. So we went out to Easter breakfast!

We still had a nice day though!
blackstrap Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Actually having Stake Conference on Easter Sunday could be a good way to have the whole stake focus on Christ and provide a good lesson in how to worship.
