Garden Girl Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 The importance of emergency preparedness has been brought home today to our Lincoln City Ward members. Due to the recent storms with heavy rains, our ground is very unstable in varying degrees throughout the coastal area... two homes are teetering above the river after ground broke away... some oceanfront homes in one area have sand up to the eaves... land/mudslides... highways breaking off... and now the main water line for Lincoln City is in danger and could go at any time. Our local radio station has been providing info... and our ward bishopric and Relief Society contacted visiting/home teachers to call members and tell them to fill containers, bathtubs, etc. with water because if the main water line goes, it could be out for up to two weeks before finally repaired... I live a few miles south of LC proper and am on a different water system, so I'm prepared to help LC members fill containers, etc if needed.So, my question to all who post here... what if you received notice today that you would likely be without water for up to two weeks? Are you prepared? Do you have water stored along with your food storage? I'm sure there will be a run on bottled water at the local markets in LC... but do you have an alternative water source should you suddenly be faced with a similar situation? Do you know someone with a well or others outside of your area that can help out?Anyway, I'm just thinking about it as I just got the email from the ward leaders about the situation. And, it brings home just how quickly an emergency can happen and how we need to take our being prepared seriously... Just thinking...from the beach... GG

We can walk down to the river to make ourselves drinking water. We don't have enough room to store that much water, so that was the best solution for us. We have a little water stored.

GGHey GG.We have rooms reserved for Sunday through Tuesday in Lincoln City. Our emergency plan will be to shoot down to Newport or Florence should something happen!3DOP
Garden Girl Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Hey 3DOP!!!So far, the water line has been holding and the city emergency crews have been working steadily to forego a break, and the weather cooperated today and we should have dry weather this next week which will help immensely... but residents are still being cautioned to use only enough water to get by, and to go ahead and store some in containers, etc., just in case. I'll listen to the local radio station and if anything changes I'll let you know. If anything does happen, your plan "B" for Newport/Florence should be fine. Newport should be okay waterwise, but that's where the two houses were hanging on the edge. Haven't heard if they went over. The dry weather will help all around.GG
rodheadlee Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I have 66 gallons onboard. I worked on my watermaker all day yesterday and it still doesn't work I'd like to remind you all to make sure your dry goods are in waterproof containers. Maybe test them first. I was packing my stuff to a hotel room for cyclone Wilma and stuff I thought was waterproof was not. My med bag had about a cup of water in it, the water came in through the zipper. I was able to save everything and put them in ziplocs but I was surprised.
