BCSpace Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Communism, in it's pure form (no wage labor and free access to articles of consumption, etc.), can't exist more than a few moments after the required dictatorship declares it. So a Mormon "Communist" is going to have income and such a Mormon will be asked to pay tithing on it.

cinepro Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Mormon communists would probably be expected to pay 10% on everything they "earned", just as other LDS are. Perhaps some if the tithing would need to be in the form of goods or services, but communist countries have currencies just like other countries, so paying in cash would still be possible.

The closer one gets to pure communism, the closer one approaches zero income and the closer one gets to zero GDP as an economy. 10% of zero is zero.

I am of course speaking of pure communism and not merely the extreme socialism that we have seen in history.I suppose, depending on how literally the principles of communism were interpreted, it would be impossible for a communist citizen to have an "increase", so he would be required to pay 10% of zero.But my rudimentary understanding of "communism" has led me to believe that it is the "means of production" and "real estate" that is owned by the government, while individuals still own their private goods (food, clothing, board games, etc.) So they could still pay 10% of something.

Lots of opp[ortunity for income there though perhaps some of it might have had to be in kind.

Mormons who belong to a communist party pay tithing like every other member if they receive income. Back in the good ol' days when a part of europe was communist, people living in communist countries received an income based on their work. Teachers, doctors, janitors etc. received their imcome from the state and so, they would be required to pay tithing of 10% to the lds church, if they were mormons. It would be no different than a public service worker in a capitalist country.

The income today from the black market in former communist countries would be much greater now and people were becoming super rich when communism fell. Back in the good ol' days, much was had by bartering. But since incomes were not large, not much could be made on the black market since the average income was limited.

Thus, they would be requried to pay 12 rubles in tithe.
