Zakuska Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The statement of a Roman Catholic scholar in biblical languages regarding Genesis 4:1:"The Hebrew name qayin ("Cain") and the term qaniti ("I have produced") present another play on words. "Mak, one thing the Jewish scholars state is that you should never derive doctrine from O.T. poetry. You have continued to claim Psalms, for instance, teaches polytheism - but Psalms is Jewish poetry, as is the play on words in Genesis 4:1. I suggest you go back to the drawing board. Maybe you can claim that Philo was the real author of Jewish monotheism.By the way, I NEVER said you personally believed this happened, however you clearly stated that the sacred text taught that. And you know I'm right. New Testament authors REAAALLY must have missed that memo! alter idem Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 As some of us suspected, Catherine Aurelia/Athansius/Carmella is no newbie.Do the board guidelines say anything about board nannies?So...trying to help a poster is being a 'board nanny'? I don't know why you make these things personal..my comments were not directed against you, they were to help a poster who claimed to be new from possibly making a mistake. And FYI, there isn't anything about 'board nannies' in the guidelines.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 That quote is wrong. It cites a number of books, but doesn't give any page numbers at all, and having read several of those books, I don't recall anything intimating that Alexander was Greek. Macedon was a different country with a different ethnic background and even a different language.I agree with you. I just think wikipedia is a funny source. Most of the time they carry no weight and they miss a lot of citations.
volgadon Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 It definitely was Athanasius. There is a topic on CARM asking for help to counter Ps 82 and the no doctrine from poettry bit comes off of a poster there.

Zakuska Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The Judaism subforum.Found Judaism but Im not finding the particular post. Could you PM the link?
volgadon Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The verb ??? (kanah) means to acquire/get. It does not mean to conceive. In fact the exact same verb and conjugation (?????) is used in Ecclesiastes 2:7, maybe this Mormon is suggesting Solomon conceived the slaves?!!?I purchased (?????) male and female slaves...Or in Ruth 4:9 its used as well, clearly nothing to do with conceiving:Then Boaz said to the leaders and all the people,
maklelan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Does this seem familiar? Not a Jewish scholar, but Gavriel, a poster at CARM.Athanasius lied to us again. She's also over there saying Mormons believe our God is only the God of earth, and that each planet has their own God. Who could possibly plumb the depths of this woman's dishonesty.
selek Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Who could possibly plumb the depths of this woman's dishonesty.God might be able to do so, but he'd need a radio telescope and a lead line the length of her ego to pull it off.
volgadon Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 It appears that with the exception of Cassuto, all of Catherine-Carmella-Athanasius's Jewish scholars are actually Gavriel the CARM poster. I wonder if it isn't he the yeshiva graduate.
maklelan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 You all might find this kinda funny. A friend who runs the second most popular biblioblog in the states just sent me an interesting email. He checks periodically to see what Google search terms are leading people to his blog. Yesterday someone evidently found his blog by googling "daniel o. mcclellan is a jerk stupid arrogant." This is obviously someone from CARM (or here), but what on earth could this person possibly have been hoping to find? I can't imagine they expected to find any academic ammo to use against me.
consiglieri Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 By the way, Mak, has anybody ever told you that you look like Matt Damon?
maklelan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 More lying from Athanasius. She is back on CARM with Gavriel (who can't possibly have any real academic experience to speak of. His word studies consist of seeing how different translations render the words) and she is crowing about having been banned from here for disagreeing with the doctrine that Cain was sired by Yahweh. She has not bothered to tell anyone that (1) every poster who commented emphatically denied that any Mormon believes that, (2) she posted that she was done with the conversation and leaving, and (3) she was banned (after leaving) for using a sock puppet (which is also ban-worthy at CARM). She's lying through her teeth to sound cool. I'm absolutely astonished that this is what passes for mainstream Christianity these days (and that it's supposed to be better than Mormonism).
maklelan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 By the way, Mak, has anybody ever told you that you look like Matt Damon? I have been told that. More frequently I get Woody Harrelson, although here at Oxford it's been almost exclusively Jason Statham.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 she was banned (after leaving) for using a sock puppet (which is also ban-worthy at CARM). I don't show here as banned yet. She might be sometimes there is some time that passes before it is reflected on the posters profile. I am disheartened that she is doint that. She had invited me over there because "they dont bite". So far that is not what Iam seening.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I have been told that. I just realised that your probably as old as I am in a round about way.. I thought you were some old guy like DCP. Lol.

I think he is mentioned in the scriptures as the Ancient of Days. I once thought that Tolkien used him as the basis for Tom Bombadil, but I dismissed that as a Probably not. Until I read DCP's thread on Love, and now I am revisiting that possibility. - SlackTime
SilverKnight Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 My tirade on post #368 and subsequent crow-eating notwithstanding, I am truly grateful to Carmella for providing me with a nifty new signature. It just doesn't get any better than an infamous anti-mormon hack, after getting destroyed in a debate and repeatedly caught lying, to tell you the reason you are such a jerk is because you are possessed by demons.
