Jarrod Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Name calling and such comparisons serve no purpose. The original thread was about the missing plates. From those plates, the Book of Mormon came to be. And here is the problem for you. How you try, you just cannot prove it false. But it is not up to me to prove it true. I have the book. You can either believe the story or disbelieve it. Your choice. If you choose to disbelieve the BofM, it is your business. If you choose to believe it, it is also your business...none of us will change your mind on this one and that is okay. But your anger or vileness can be just a wee bit problematic for you. I don't believe I engaged in name-calling. But I did draw comparisons that I know would offend some people here. I'll try to keep that to a minimum. As for the original topic and the plates, your assertion is not logical. You say that it is up to me to prove that Joseph didn't author the Book of Mormon, which is asking me to prove a negative. That doesn't work. The burden of proof rests on those who make such claims, not on those upon whom you assert such claims. I suppose I can see your point about "having the book", but I don't think that the question is whether you actually have the Book of Mormon; the question is over its authenticity. The existence of the Book of Mormon is not enough alone to prove Joseph's claims. But in the end, I am compelled to agree with you: neither of us is likely to change his mind.As for the anger and vileness, please forgive me for my rudeness. I'll try to keep it in check.Peace.
Dunamis Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 That being said, I think that you need to acknowledge that the people who are defending mormonism are making sound replies to your statements and inquiries. Barf barf barf. Sorry, but Mormonism is the epitome of illogic. And as for the "sound replies", I find them to be anything but. If anything, they only resemble the same stuff that came out of the People's Temple, Branch Davidians, and Heaven's Gate. Hardly a sound defense. I just get tired of the polemics and baseless claims, sometimes coming from all sides, sometimes not. After a while, I get tired and acknowledge that there really is little point in carrying after everyone makes their case over and over. If you want to call that a victory, I'll gladly give it to you. Congratulations.
