Gift And Power - Brant Gardner

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I sit down with LDS author Brant Gardner to discuss his book "The Gift and Power - Translating the Book of Mormon" and ask him tough questions about the translation process, Joseph's Scrying or mystical use of the seer stone and skins of blackness in the Book of Mormon. We also touch on the Meso-American Setting model for the Book of Mormon.

We discuss Joseph's scrying, the use of seer stones, along with why we at least in part depict a different story.

We also touch on the mesoamerican model for the Book of Mormon and skins of blackness on the Lamanites

Does this help us better grasp the divide between how it happened and how we depict it.

Thanks. I really appreciate the compliment. There are several other big names coming. If anyone here has a fresh take on something or a book or other work that they want to push let me know.

It will be interesting to see if it lines up with the official teachings of the church.

Great interview. I'm still on the fence with the whole black skin as allegory idea.

I would recommend Brandt Gardner's mormon stories interview to anyone who hasn't heard it yet. Dehlin asks a lot of tough questions and Gardner has some good responses.
