Bushman, Mormonism: A Very Short Introduction

Givens, Parley P. Pratt bio

If I remember correctly, three of those are from Oxford University Press.

The Ostlings' book has its problems, though I've found it demonstrably more fair and accurate than other books written by outsiders covering the same topics.

How Wide the Divide is okay, though I think Millet and Johnson's Bridging the Divide is a crucial companion volume, as is Millet and McDermott's Claiming Christ: A Mormon-Evangelical Debate.

Permanent display or seemingly something more recent (as in put up in the time since Mitt essentially became the Repub candidate)? Just curious.

More recent.

Millet & Johnson's was also on display IIRC. No LDS or Deseret publications were there. Just to show how important it is to publish in other venues.

Isn't that the school the church is planning on turning into "BYU Virginia"? (not literally that name of course)

Edit

OOPS- No I think that is Southern Virginia University

I am pretty sure the school is a private endeavour, not church sponsored, though with the high number of students transferring from there to BYU it makes sense to have a specific credits transfer for the school.

Somewhat surprisingly, BYU-I credits do not transfer to BYU. Likely due to either real or perceived academic non-equivalency.

Actually, they do. There are certain CES classes that have to be repeated if the transferring student does not have their Associate's Degree, but transfers between Rexburg and Provo happen all the time.

There are some classes for which there is simply no equivalent and the credits can't transfer, but for the most part, students are still able to keep their credits if they choose to attend Provo.

I'm reading Givens & Grow's P.P. Pratt bio right now. Fantastic stuff.

Can't wait for Harvard Press' Brigham Young: Pioneer Prophet coming this September by John Turner. (see here to pre-order at Amazon).

Great. Now we have JS, BY, and PPP all going through peer review. Is Turner LDS?

Nope. But he is a regular contributor to the Bloggernacle and associated community, and advance word from LDS scholars I'm aware of has been that the book is phenomenal.

That would be Jack Chick.

I thought Cracker Jack was in the candy section.

LOL! Much better! I'm tempted to edit my post!

(but you deserve the credit, because after all, women are more spiritual than men)

You set me up, so we both get credit for it.

We need a drum smilie for the rimshot sound.

Ok, I've resisted temptation long enough. I have to share this. It could explain so much about anti-mormonism.

The Book of Mormon: A Very Short Introduction is gone. Apparently it was checked out.
