Easter Thoughts

Today, I’m thinking of the multitude of implications if Jesus Christ truly appeared to the Nephites.

Left dangling like that, I'm left formulating an implication. My first thought is pondering the Parable of the Twelve Hours found in D&C 33:3–7 and more fully in D&C 88:56–61 as though it were about 3rd Nephi-style Visitations.

In 3 Nephi, Christ appears to the Nephites after His resurrection and ministers to them in person. The idea in this interpretation is that He is currently visiting other “vineyards” or tribes in similar fashion, completing a post-resurrection ministry, and sending "servants" missionaries or prophets, sent to gather Israel, before returning for the Second Coming.

I also recall the parable has other interpretations; like that Christ is currently spending time on Twelve planets or worlds before returning to the first. Earth may be the “first vineyard,” and Christ will return here after He completes His visits to the others. We’re in the last period (11th hour) before the "end" (Second Coming) after visiting each vineyard in turn. He spends “a time with each”, and tells them he will return to the first after visiting all. The servants ask why he doesn’t stay with them, and he explains that he must give each kingdom its due time.

D&C 88:61:
“Wherefore, I will liken all these kingdoms unto a man having a field, and he sent forth his servants into the field to dig in the field. … For the lord of the field went unto the first in the first hour, and tarried with him all that hour … and so on unto the twelfth.”

Happy Easter! Watching American Idol, and some of the singers are singing about the Saviour and I'm feeling the spirit strong. Also, during an Easter get together today my son in law wanted us to say the blessing. Something that hasn't happened as often as I'd like. And then my other son in law who is Catholic had to correct some of them when they decided to do the cross on themselves acting silly. My son in law showed them exactly how it's done. I guess it's the little moments that help me keep the Saviour close. This same son in law's mother, they are from Mexico, did an amazing large intricate cross stitch of the Saviour that she had shared on her FB page a few years ago and I commented on it and lo and behold she sends it to me from Mexico. I felt so undeserving. But it is has hung on my wall and I cherish it and it's right where I see it before I go to sleep and see it when I awake.

Since our bishop was unwise enough to have me called to be his second counselor, and this was my month to assign talks, I assigned myself to be the concluding speaker yesterday (Easter Sunday). When it came to my attention that I needed a speaker for that day, I absolutely jumped at the chance to speak. I love testifying of Jesus Christ, and I could not forbear. There may be some others in the ward who could have done a better job, and the sister I asked to speak first did an excellent job, but I decided to be selfish and do the closing talk myself. It turned out OK, so all is well in Zion.

I am so very excited to testify that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Eternal God.
