provoman Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) https://mobile.twitter.com/BYU/status/1237122209572782080 BYU was contacted by the Utah County Health Department to notify the university that an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 attended a basketball game in the Marriott Center on Feb. 22, 2020. 2/7 Additional information: According to the Utah Department of Health, this does not represent a new case in the state of Utah. The individual was not a member of our campus community. ------------- Not a new case in the State of Utah, so does that mean the Davis County patient was at the BYU game? Calm Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) I would assume they came with the visiting team. That was Gonzaga, Spokane, Washington. Edited March 9, 2020 by Calm 2
Rain Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Lots of people go to the games even when not associated with either school. My BIL used to work for one of shipping companies and would arrange to be on flights to Utah when the games were so he could go - he has never even been to college let alone go to BYU. I've found there are other fans like him. So who knows who it might be. 1
webbles Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 More info at https://www.ksl.com/article/46727977/utahn-diagnosed-with-covid-19-attended-byu-basketball-game-health-department-says It was the Davis County patient who attended the game after returning from the cruise but before being diagnosed. 3
Calm Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) It has been 15 days since the game. No obvious illnesses yet, but do we know when he likely became contagious or at least the possibility? Cases springing from him should be popping up how soon? Edited March 9, 2020 by Calm

Cases springing from him should be popping up how soon? https://coronavirus.utah.gov/if-i-attended-the-byu-gonzaga-basketball-game-on-feb-22-am-i-at-risk-of-exposure-to-covid-19/ has some more information. Looks like the patient wasn't that contagious at the BYU game and since it has been 15 days, no one needs to self-quarantine. Based off of https://coronavirus.utah.gov/health-officials-announce-first-case-of-covid-19-in-utah/, it would appear that the patient was on the Grand Princess ship that is currently in limbo off of the coast of California. The patient would have gotten off on February 21 so he/she would have only just been back in Utah when the game occurred. Edited March 10, 2020 by webbles 2
