Heber Young asked me to extend his sincere apologies to any and all for his offensive note about certain forms of communication between men and women in the Church. Sometimes to maintain his sanity he simply has to resort to his pathetic brand of sarcastic humor. He expressed his hopes that those who were offended perhaps would consider the suggestive name of the bishop in question, identify his outrageous justification of a foolish position of an act that unfortunately is rooted in reality, and understand that S. Heber’s intent was to skewer any such LDS man, (whether in authority or not) who would ignorantly misuse the handbooks and scriptures to put down a sister in the the Church, especially in an attempt to assert authority rather than to provide sincere instruction and true spiritual guidance. He also hoped the point out the inanity of secretly recording recording eccliastic interviews, and introduce a bit of humor into the new way we conduct meetings. Unfortunately, S. He has shown up at silly anti-Mormon intrusions into LDS events such as conference and pageants, word of wisdom, the dust-up over BYUROTC, the “Ordain Women” movement, the Utah twang, Church sports, and now, unfortunately, Mormansplaining and Mormanspreading, etc., and then reported his exploits here on this board. Other than Joseph Fielding Smith and Boyd K.Packer, he is probably the most misunderstood man in the Church. He’s a play on one of my all-time favorite general authorities, Seymour (S.) Dilbert Young.
