No More First and Second Quorum of Seventy

Do these quorums no longer exist? Do they exist but are just not acknowledged on the general authority chart? If they were done away with how did that affect the third through eighth quorums of area seventies?

I guess they've stopped delineating who belongs to the First and Second Quorums because both of those quorums possess general Church authority, whereas authority of members of the Third through the Eighth Quorum (Area Seventies) is limited to the areas where they reside.  It's similar to the reason why they identify speakers by saying simply "of the Seventy" rather than attempting to ascertain and to keep straight who belongs to what quorum.

It does seem that the first and second are blended. It makes sense that they are still actually two separate quorums, but I can't find any way to see who belongs to which quorum except from older charts.

Just got some clarification on this from a knowledgeable source.

Henceforth, there is no designation as to who is in the First Quorum of the Seventy and who is in the Second Quorum of the Seventy. In theory, there could be a total of 140 men (70 per quorum) designated as General Authority Seventies, but there will be no distinction as to who is in which quorum. No distinction by alphabetical order or by seniority or by anything else.

From now on, they all serve until age 70, at which time they are given emeritus status. And this is something new I learned: The policy is retroactive. That is to say, all former members of the First or Second Quorum of the Seventy now have emeritus status, even if they haven't had it heretofore.

The policy is still the same as it has been, though, with Area Seventies, who serve part time and are then released after a period of service. They are not given emeritus status.

See, if I had searched on "2nd Quorum" rather than "Second Quorum" I might have found the prior thread.

Scott Lloyd? Any knowledge on this?

Old news. Been discussed before here.

The First and Second quorums still exist in concept, but as of about a year ago they have stopped designating who belongs to which. They are each called General Authority Seventy now. Members of the other quorums are Area Seventies.

And all General Authority Seventies receive emeritus status now when relieved of service. Earlier it was only members of the First Quorum who received it.

Yes, I ended up finding out it had been discussed before. I had actually searched before posting to see if it had been discussed before, but since I searched on the correct terms ("First and Second Quorum of Seventy") my search didn't turn up the prior discussion, in which the incorrect, or improperly designated, terms ("1st and 2nd Quorums of Seventy") were used.
