See all these messy quotes up here????  I cannot longer see the screen for the tears of that beautiful song/video.  This.  It is a message that takes an old heart back to the Christmas childhood and how I wish its message could speak to our nation and the world today.  Thank you so much!! Merry Christmas to Daniel2 and the man who makes him so happy!

We spend so much time and energy interacting with one another here, it seems a shame that, almost without exception, we will never know one another as anything more than disembodied screen names.

At this beautiful season, I wish everyone a joyous Christmas and a prosperous and happy new year. And that includes any whom I might have crossed rhetorical swords with over the years. No hard feelings. I wish you all of life's goodness.

I offer this impromptu oration from one of my favorite characters in my favorite novel of all time from my favorite writer of all time:

Why thank you Scott.  What a fine post.  I hope you have not blocked me so you can see me say this is a fine thought on all things good and the fact the discussion boards often block us from really getting to know the people behind the words.

Merry Christmas to you and all here.

Someone might've beaten you to that.  Just sayin'! ;):D

P.S.: But, hey!  If it's worth sayin', it's worth sayin' twice!

God bless us, everyone.

Scott, a sincere Happy Christmas to you and the rest of the board.

I'm glad that one of my compatriots was able to furnish the world with such an uplifting Christmas story.

In return, I thank you for my kids' favourite adaptation of the story. It might be one of the versions with the most application of poetic license but it wonderfully captures the spirit of the book.

I am, of course, referring to the delightful Muppet Christmas Carol. It doesn't feel like Christmas until we've sung along "only one more sleep til Christmas"

The work of Charles D*i*c*kens is England's greatest cultural export, surpassing even the Beatles in magnitude. As I said, he is my all-time favorite author, and his "carol" is my all-time favorite novel. I've read it every year since I was 11. These days, i read it aloud to whomever of my children has the patience to sit and listen to me. (Alas, my daughter, 11, is the only one who still does, it seems.) The fact that I early on instituted a tradition with my wife and kids that we "play at blindman's buff" every Christmas Eve says much.

In my earlier, snootier years, I was contemptuous of musical adaptations of the novel, regarding them as adulterations. But I must confess that over the years my wife and children have compelled me to at first tolerate and ultimately enjoy the Muppets' version. We have at least two copies on DVD, maybe more. And, of course, how could I be a Scrooge where A Christmas Carol is concerned?

My favorite of all the film dramatizations is the 1951 British movie starring Alistair Sim and a young Patrick McNee. That's what introduced me to Scrooge. I remember watching it on our black-and-white TV late one Christmas Eve after my married siblings and their children had gone home from our family party and before my longsuffering parents had sent me to bed. Coincidentally, my future sister-in-law (who would marry my brother after he returned from his mission to Canada) gave me a copy of the novel for Christmas the next morning.

That was 50 years ago last Christmas. I still have that copy, which I read annually for many years. In adulthood, I acquired a scholarly, annotated edition and read that for a number of years. These days, I'm apt to read to my kids from one of a few ebook versions I keep on my iPod touch.

The novel has pervaded my consciousness over the years and influenced who I am and what I do. On at least two occasions I have quoted from it as I have written the back-page "Viewpoint" editorial in the Church News.

My affinity for the novel is one thing I share with President Monson, who has quoted from it several times in his discourses.

OK, another Christmas favorite... we listen to this all year round, several times every Saturday or Sunday morning while cleaning the house (and usually my hubby cries, every time!)... (I'm not exaggerating on any of the above points... lol)

Simply fabulous!  Love the Paino Guys!  Saw them in concert recently.  Their simple testimony in music and a few words rouses my own feelings about the supernatural world.

Thank you for sharing.
