Bernard Gui Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Well, we've slugged it out on the negative side of MMMS, Male Mormon Modesty Miasma Syndrome - Stinky Mormon men doing that thing they do. To my great surprise, that thread not only grew legs, it sprouted turbo charged engines, grew big wings, and set off on a wild erratic adventure. Not many of you showed up at that discussion for reasons I totally understand and agree with, so here's your chance to hang out in the lodge, throw back a few diet root beers, let it fly. Let's get some positive ideas here on what me can do to smell a little sweeter to the sisters. How about some positives for a change? This is not a rehash of the MaleMormonmodestyteachingrapeculturefail discussion. It's not a place for venting or blaming women for what ails you. Do that over at the modesty thread. This is feel-good stuff only. One thing we brethren are told is that we don't have a clue what it's like to be a woman, and not even to think we understand their issues. In this thread sisters, if you need to participate please Refrain from saying you know what it's like to be a man or that you understand the genre issues we must deal with. Brothers, it's our responsibility to train our minds have to have only "pure thoughts." As Jesus said, if you have I impure thoughts you mayh deny the faith and be cast out. As President Packer once said, "You can't stop the birds from flying around your head, but can keep them from building their nest in your hair." (Birds means thoughts) Rather than grouse about how hard it is to blah blah blah, let's hear some serious real ideas. What's a fella to do to keep his thoughts our? Jesus said we should. Suggestions are welcomed. 1
Bernard Gui Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 I'll start. Quote Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven. The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever. 3
thatjimguy Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) The first thing about this kind of control is to just realize and accept that it is not going to be easy. It is what drives all forms of life. Understand also that that drive, if blocked by whatever means, is not going to make it any easier. Instead of condemning yourself when you fail after a stretch of good behavior, pat yourself on the back for all the days of good behavior you got past and furthermore pats on the back that most men wouldn't even bother to even consider the route you have chosen. People in LDS say "You try as hard as you can and then Jesus takes you the rest of the way." Consider that before you consider yourself unworthy for a mishap after a good long run with good behavior. Remember, you already knew this was not going to be easy. Understand that the idea of a "timed" finish line is not proof of defeating the temptation. (i.e. If I just don't think or do this for "X", I will have proven worthy.) It will always be there. It will be there tomorrow. It will be there next week. It will just be there. It's the getting back up off the floor and trying again. It's when you are not only down, and not having just a hard time getting back up, but not caring if you get back up again is when you get to be unworthy, because you have accepted the sin. So forgive yourself, and get back up. Quote NOTE: Now that I've said this, I looked back and realize that even though I replied to the question "What's guy to do to keep his thoughts pure?" I now see that this post was in response to a subject totally different subject matter in the other thread than I thought it was. I mean it has some relation I suppose, but not exactly the subject I was thinking. Feh. Edited September 25, 2016 by thatjimguy 1

Popular Post Calm Posted September 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) I don't have a clue why you felt you had to go there, Bernard. It feels like you have taken all the hard work you, I, and others have been doing for days trying to connect and just dumped it in the toilet with a laugh. If you still want to try, perhaps you could tske the time to explain what you saw that you interpreted in such a way you felt justify to do this. At this point in time I am going to try and hold in my mind one of the more important thoughts I picked up in Conference and that is 'sometimes the greatest form of charity may be withholding judgment'. I hope others will consider that choice of love as well. Edited September 25, 2016 by Calm 6

You just may not realize it because it is hard. Kind of like someone spotting you on the lightest weight on a weight on a weight machine when you dont know it. Then if you can't finish the motion the spotter gets it all till you are ready to try again. Edited September 25, 2016 by Rain 1
