Oh, come off it Scott. Since when has your opinion registered as humble? Kirby's success speaks volumes. And then there are sour grapes... 1

Jeanne Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Kirby is the reason I buy the Trib. That is...when it gets delivered! I just can't get through DN.
notHagoth7 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I've only read a handful of Kirby's columns. Wasn't offended. But could see how some might choose to take offense.

And one to which I'm entitled, popular or not. Or would you deny me the right to my opinion? Sorry, I know it can be annoying when people don't pay what you think is the proper degree of deference to your favorite mass media cult hero. The fact is that Kirby is rarely as insightful and astute as his devotees make him out to be, and is very often not as witty as they regard him. Now, you and maxrep might want to consider standing down from your outrage when you realize that I didn't say he he was a bad columnist, just that he is overrated -- a thing that might not be altogether his fault. He is definitely the best that the Tribune has, better than Rolly or Ann Cannon, and far better than a couple of columnists I can think of who no longer work there. For what it's worth, as humor columnists go, Dave Barry is the best in the business, in my book. Edited September 6, 2016 by Scott Lloyd 1

If you read Kirby, he does attend church, hold a calling (he claims he works in the nursery), lives close to his bishop (Doesn't everybody in Utah?), and home teaches at least sometimes (he's not specific). He appears to be fairly conservative, but he also favors gay marriage and even performed one (and no, he was not disciplined for doing so). Most of what he says is tongue-in-cheek and poking good natured fun at his own religion and culture. 1

Through the whole article there is a point to be made and it often coincides with gospel and good living principles. My goodness, if we can't laugh at ourselves, our ability to live and love is so diminished. 2

Jeezzzz.....looks like you are way, way overreacting yourself; all I wrote was one sentence and did not say anything personal in it.....
2BizE Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I always enjoy his comments. He helps demonstrate there is a place for unorthodox Mormons. A significant number of members support unorthodox views, and it is always good to hear a different point of view. Only having one view or one voice is too much like communism.
